Blue Beetle Appreciation 2024!!!

They introduced the other Beetle colors in this run but I’m a little disappointed we never got a proper Black Beetle like the one in the Young Justice cartoon. The guy was a great villain and a freaking tank. Showed how powerful a scarab could be when the wearer is fully trained and in control. I mean he went one on one with Mongul.

Yeah he is a great character especially because he provides a case of an actual member of the Reach species wielding the scarab considering we only see it used on other species it acts as a sleeper agent for.

It only makes sense that the Reach would outfit their own members with the scarab as well which effectively makes him an uber-scarab user as he'd be both trained and probably outfitted with their best equipment too.

Well it seems the Blue Beetle series is ending in July. Issue #11 is the last one, which sucks! Jaime is so close to the century mark for solo issues, but it seems his series only lasts between 16-18 issues, unless someone like Tom King writes the book haha

It’s a bummer but it was kind of expected. Sales are apparently low.

While I loved Graduation Day I wasn’t a fan of this second run overall.

My biggest concern is that DC has a tendency to shelve Jaime when his books end. I really just want to see him be shown as part of the DCU. Like in splash pages that include even the mid tier characters like Hawkman and Black Canary. Just include him. That’s all I ask.

I really think most current writers are not a fan of Jaime and have to be forced to use him.

I think the same. It’ll probably take another decade, when the fans that grew up with Brave and the Bold/Young Justice enter the industry for him to get any attention!

Unfortunately, I started to see it coming when looking at the latest sales. I was hoping they'd get around to using more of Jaime's family and bringing some old foes back, like La Dama. Still, it's not a bad run, especially since it started as a rejected Round Robin (remember those?) pitch.

Even in events like the upcoming Absolute Power there’s images of all the “important/relevant” DC heroes involved. No Blue Beetle.

That is true unfortunately. Right now the creatives in charge grew up with the DCAU, pre Jaime Reyes, so their work is going to reflect that. The next gen will likely show Jaime so love since he got a lot of love from 2008 onwards.

On the bright side, we still have the graphic novel coming out in October! I really pre ordered it
