Has a simple change of costume caused any superhero such bother before?

Aesthetics and suggestive allyship by way of affiliation or iconography will trigger MANY a fragile soul.

Sam Wilson's red, white and blue suit. Carol's Captain shift. The Unity Squad's collective existence. Granted most of the time its the READERS that lose their damn minds but it is also reflective in the material.

Yeah, Sam donning the flag colours is a good example. "Not My Captain America" was a phrase often used in his first tenure as Cap.

The problem here is not the suit, but her being a mutant. People love Ms. Marvel. People hate mutants. So what happens if Ms. Marvel turns out to be a mutant? Both things conflict, and for some love for Ms. Marvel prevails, and for others hate for mutants prevail.

Mz. Marvel appears in Spider-Punk:Arms Race, as a regular of the Spider band. This is set in another reality, one where Punk Is Not Dead.

Which was also used as part of a final speech made to Sam, for him to rise again and fight against Stevil, in the last issue of his run as captain america (during Secret Empire) !

    Exactly this.
Hell, the bad guy from the preview encapsulates this perfectly :P

Officer Ali isn't supposed to be that one cop who always appeared in her comic before, is he? Because he's never appeared before yet Kamala acts like they've known each other for a while. His partner also isn't the woman who always hangs out with him.

    But hey, an Inventor mention!

Trying to push Kamala as a Mutant with Mutant problems still feels so artificial.

Oh, it totally is (yay, MCU synergy)
But to be fair, aside from her unceremonious death (and funeral), Ms. Marvel tenure as a mutant isnt half-bad ! (The previous book was really good imo!)

Which is more than I could say for Wanda and Pietro as "inhumans" :P

Wonder Man. Because his suits were horrible.

The writing is solid but she still feels like a character from another franchise palling around with the X-Men instead of a full-blown X-Man.

No surprise there as she was in the previous Spider-Punk series as well.

Huh? They were never Inhumans - their retconned origin was that their powers came from High Evolutionary. The only connection the Maximoffs have to the Inhumans is that Pietro is the father of Crystal's daughter.

As for Kamala's book - yeah, Iman really knows the character - she probably read all of her previous comics before playing her in the Disney+ show and Marvels movie. Helps that her co-writer is also one of the show's writers.

Apparently Marvel has told Iman that she'll definitely be back as Ms. Marvel. There's two possible projects she could get in the short term - the Young Avengers/Champions team movie, and a second season of her own TV show. The Marvels wasn't a big success, so it seems she's more likely to see future use than the other two stars of that film.

At least it's nice to have that reassurance .
