Default Machine Man 2024 and um….DC

Bleeding Cool is reporting that DCComics is laying claim to Machine Man because he first appeared in adaptation of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which belongs to Warner Bros.

lol, if this is serious, then Slott's Iron Man run would essentially be banned, as would Nextwave!

Could this be serious or just another of those pushings big two give each other?

I dunno. This could escalate and instead DC vs Marvel could transform in Disney vs Warner. And that could be to another level of legal combat.

Going by this logic it makes absolutely no sense that DC would own Machine Man. Where exactly did Rich "discover" this info?

Marvel was able to keep the shogun warriors' pilots, half the micronouts plus captain universe, psycho man and microverse, team america cast and us1 human cast and godzilla cast and tarzan, some john carter and doc savage bad guys and shadow bad guys also but they all showed up in those books first. They got to keep shang chi also.

On the other hand, death's head and circuit breaker showed up in a marvel title before showing up in transformers to keep rights. On the other hand the neo-knights showed up in transformers first yet some say marvel owns them?

Not sure how the rights go on some of these books unless a deal was made who gets who when printed.

Still have not forgiven her for killing zombie wasp out of jealousy when wasp was just helping. Ruined her character for me.

DC is laying claim to Machine Man, but they are not laying claim to the Captain Marvel name? Billy Batson preceded Mar-Vell by 25 years.

They lost that case decades ago.

Fawcett let the trademark lapse in the 1950s and Marvel grabbed it in 1968, three years before DC started publishing Shazam.

Why the foofarah? Is Machine Man suddenly a desirable property? It just so happens I've recently reread the series from 2001 - Machine Man 9 and while I most liked Aaron Stack in NEXT WAVE!!!, Kirby's issues are fun, thoughtful, and do not suggest the same 'commercial property desirability' as nearly all other Marvel and DC characters. Sooo... why the foofarah?

Maybe they only want the name. "Machine Man" and do something enterily different with that. Marvel could keep the character but then should change the name of the character. That is another possibility.
Or could be a situation similar to Angela.
