I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Thanks, everyone for participating, and a special thank you to those who aimed to impress, by reading the fine print of the theme.

Stony gets my vote because that cover is what this contest was all about.

Close behind him in the race were:
CaptainEurope with another hilarious cover, I was not aware of its existence, and worstblogever for a cape crusaders dilemma: add a mile to your cape and make it glow in the dark or not?
    Perhaps not.
Unless you were going for a skydancer outfit, I don't see how can you lurk in the dark and drop on unannounced on the unsuspecting culprit population of Gotham City.

Also, I will be in bed before the time runs out for voting, and then work till late afternoon tomorrow.
If anyone wants to get the counting, announcing/notifying the winner done before that, feel free to do so.

I have to go with Stony.

Also, the iconic cover I was thinking of was The Death of Superman with his torn cape as the focus.

    Also Kai "the Spy"

That story is odd but Wonder Woman in a Batman cape is fire. Who knew?

I had considered that one, but that cape wasn't being worn, which was part of the contest.
