Sony also took a $1B write down.
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/sony-to...ess-1485773583

It lost at best, $25M but like I said ancillary profits saved the day. And fully cemented Ghost Corps as a viable production company. Which is on the Ghost Corps founders plaque.

Two new movies, new cartoon, several successful videos games later ... I mean really? The false amount listed in the HR article (taken from mid-closing of the theatrical run speculatives) would have mothballed the franchise.

The worst you can say is Answer The Call made Ghost Corps pivot directions and pissed off some misogynist fans.

A private company is not going to tell you their actual loss.

It didn't take in tons of BO money but the losses were greatly over blown.
Sony took a write down, lost $25 million (they claim) and basically pulled the plug on that direction. It lost money, studio changed directions and decided to do something that made them money.

I get some fans wanting to say it wasn’t as bad. But all 3 factors listed show Sony didn’t want to keep losing money that way.

And if toy sales merchandise wise was so huge , then yes it could have saved the day and gotten the film a sequel. It did not.

Five other sources back the losses being over blown, plus an insider to Sony.

That's probably the most accurate number

It's still a lot and enough to pump the brakes on the creative direction.

It lost money, studio changed directions and decided to do something that made them money.
Which is exactly what I said and what happened.

And if toy sales merchandise wise was so huge , then yes it could have saved the day and gotten the film a sequel. It did not.
Ancillary profits saved the franchise from being shelved. The poor BO take caused the pivot. Which was the point I was making. As well as the losses being over blown (it still lost money).

If Sony would have marketed better or cheaper, we could have easily been on ATC universe movie #2 or #3 right now.

Ghostbusters is an insulated franchise (like Godzilla, Marvel, DC, TMNT, etc), so if the BO take is poor, they'll just pivot.

It'll be fine and sounds like another movie is planned but may be pivoting the franchise again (sounding like both OGs sans Winston and NuSpenglers might be out in favor of a new city/cast) depending on the final run.

I wonder if the Ghostbusters franchise should imitate the Conjuring franchise and launch likeable stars and characters before branching out. The Annabelle Comes Home spin-off felt like a Ghostbusters episode with how many spooks it had with a mostly regular people cast.

That sounds similar to one of the rumors but with different city, different franchise spin.

Who will win the weekend? CW faces a girl vampire, anime spy's and nazi killers at the box office.

    Abigail
    Spy x family the movie
    The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Who will be the big winner or will cw take it again?

Pro thinks the vampire girl will take first while cw and spy x family have a nasty battle for second place.

Nazi movie may make 4th! Yikes. Note spy is getting called the wild card of the weekend.

Update to box office as CW is overperforming and now instead of fighting for 2nd may fight for first! Kong also doing well again so don't count it out yet also.

Spy x family is still listed as the wild card. Good reviews and did well overseas but overseas PROMOTES their anime movies like any other movie something sony don't do here. Ironic this would make a great family movie but if they don't know it's even out how will they go see it?

Add to it sony has given spy less screenings than other anime movies. It is in imax but has to share it with another movie. Some said spy pre sales are great and could take second and others say it's doing worse than other anime films and may make lower top 5.

The vampire movie still looks to be first unless CW pulls ahead.

It won't make a great family movie unless they show the dubbed version. I saw the Subtitled version on Monday and was not a fan. Well, would still not be a fan if it was dubbed.

Deadline lays out top 5 predications. Looks like cw and vampire girl are indeed fighting for first! It's going to be neck and neck. Any one of the two could get it. Other getting second.

3rd looks to go to the nazi killer movie that is doing better than expected.

4th looks to go to the monkey and lizard.

Spy looks to make 5th with next to no marketing and low screening count. Thanks sony.

Well, see if deadline is right sunday.

Just got back from spy family movie. Fun film. We did stay for the post scene. Our showing had families with kids and teens. They gave out a little spy x family postcard.

Shame sony screwed up the marketing so much for this. It's expected to hit 5th with less screenings and almost no marketing.

Box office is here, and CW and Abigail were in a super nasty war for first all weekend! Everyone was saying the vampire would win but cw pulled ahead and took first!

Ministry lands at 4th. Spy x family with a 96 rt score and A plus CinemaScore was treated like crap by sony with no ads and small showings no shock ended up in 5th pulling another slam dunk lame marketing.

Kong takes third and panda 4 rounds out the top 5.
