That NO GOOD EGOMANIC.....trying to sell his movie. That f-cker deserves it. Next Vin Diesel and Tom Cruise will be scorned for trying to actually sell a film.

The idea was the Flash was gonna do HUGE . It had people claiming it was the greatest super hero film made. It had 2 of the Batman actors the last 30+ years and there was stories they tried to get Christian Bale for it too. They had Wonder Woman and Aquaman in it too. Plus Zod !

In looking at Johnson's lure in China . He has filmed here like Rampage he's done $150+ million there to films like Jumanji the Next Level where he did $41+ million. His range goes up n down the last decade for his films there drawing wise.

If it did $50 million , Black Adam does $440+ million worldwide. That's being generous and splitting the difference.

The Marvels ended its worldwide theatrical run with the global box office of $205 million against its $300 million budget plus marketing costs. Disney lost a lot of money on it.

The Flash should have been a spectacular hit. A blockbuster epic. But it didn't. Why? Superhero movie fatigue?

His movie still underperformed and was a critical failure. Yup there are much worse bombs that came out afterwards but I don't see how the Rock is coming out smelling like roses in this. I liked the movie but not going to protect commercial bombs either. The Marvels can be the new Black Adam.

I think it was a combination of factors....

    - The streaming release window. Where its 45 days at last check. People are now waiting on these films they aren't as sold on. The window needs to be 90 days again for these films in a way. To help some of these films.

    - Negative press with Ezra Miller and the idea this film wouldn't matter long term. DC basically told the movie going audience that all these films didn't matter after Black Adam. That the reboot universe is coming after all these and its no shock they bombed.

Beyond Marvels , Marvel has gave a reason for people to keep following the universe there. They have made the films appeal n work , building a universe of quality along the way.

    - The film just wasn't that good. The super hype of it didn't help with proclaiming it was the greatest super hero film made. Which as we saw....it wasn't. The warning signs was how it was re-edited numerous time from changing deaths and characters along the way. Originally Keaton's Batman was to survive and come over to our universe when Affleck's died.

    - There was also super hero fatigue as well. With really the audiences deciding they only will put their money behind certain super hero films and films in total at theaters.....Flash like Marvels was a victim of it.

Agreed for the most part. Guess we'll never really know about China.

    Wonka heading to $500m ww.

Thanks to china aquaman 2 has a chance to break even and may break the "can't pass $400m dcu curse".

Meanwhile, WB/DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was the biggest studio title of the offshore frame with an estimated $30.3M from 77 markets. Amid a good 37% overall drop, Brazil increased by 24% while Netherlands (-1%), Spain (-10%), Germany (-11%), France (-24%), Italy (-29%) and Mexico (-29%) all saw strong holds.

That’s encouraging news with $400M+ global on the cards. Currently, the international cume is $234.8M and worldwide is $334.8M. IMAX this weekend added $2.5M globally, bringing the running tally to $31M.

The Top 5 markets to date are China ($54.3M), Mexico ($17.5M), France ($13.5M), Germany ($13M) and the UK ($10.5M).

Swifts movie is a hit in china leading it to defeat mjs this is it movie for highest grossing ww concert movie.

Thanks to japan and korea wish on a roll heading past $200m overseas. It just did well in brazil also.

Disney’s Wish reached $209.5M global, getting to the two-century mark in its seventh weekend. This makes it the fourth-highest grossing animated release of 2023 worldwide. Internationally, the drop was good at 26% with another set of strong holds including in the Netherlands (+5%), Germany (-12%), Italy (-16%), Japan (-19%), Australia (-27%), France (-28%), Spain (-33%) and the UK (-40%).

Korea was a new play this session, with Wish coming in at a solid $4.6M for the best Disney or Pixar animated opening since the pandemic. In Brazil, Wish opened at No. 2 with $1.7M, ahead of Encanto, Migration and Elemental. It was No. 1 in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay, also coming in ahead of fellow opener Migration. Summer school holidays are ahead throughout January and February.

The full weekend was $19M in 51 markets for an overseas cume of $146.9M.

Here are the Top 5 markets: France ($19.1M), Japan ($18.5M), Germany ($14.9M), UK ($14.4M) and Italy ($9.2M).
Migration really has legs. We have another puss and boots 2 and elemental.

Illumination/Universal’s Migration scooped up another $15.5M in 73 markets for a $72.9M international cume and $150.7M global. The hold overseas was a strong -18% including great results in Austria (+43%), Netherlands (+23%), Belgium (+5%), France (-1%), Germany (-10%) and Australia (-25%).

As staggered release continues, Brazil, Poland, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay were new this session, collectively opening above Sing 2. Still to come through March are Korea, the UK and Japan.

Oppen wins big at golden globes while studio Ghibli releases a thank you message for boy and the heron winning animated.

Aquaman 2 breaking the $400m dcu curse and wish and migration coming back after bad starts! Also, wonka still killing it and swift breaking mjs record. Boy and heron defeating dragonball for 4th highest anime in america. Nice little comebacks and small wins for theatres.

Wonka is bound to push Quantumania and Elemental off the Top 10 global movies of 2023. Sights on Mission: Impossible and The Little Mermaid, next.

For the first time since 2016 apparently, Disney did NOT lead at the box office, (a misleading stat anyway), Universal did. What did they release in 2023 again? Was the Swift movie a Universal thing?

My advice to Disney for the Rey movie is, cancel it if you can, and if you can't, make it a low budget movie, no more than $75 to $80 million for the shooting budget. Rey isn't going to make them a ton of money these days, now that lust for all things Star Wars has been successfully killed off. So the best way to either lose less, or make a small profit in this case is to not play the game, or play it with lower stakes. Bet less, essentially. And in general practice making movies with much smaller budgets. Waste less money with reshoots, have a viable script BEFORE you start shooting, and concentrate more on developing Rey's character.

I wonder how many of those movies actually made a profit. I suspect about half or less.

They did lead domestically at least if you count 20th century studios, and searchlight.

Warner Bros lost a lot of money on DCEU movies but made a handsome profit on Barbie and Wonka.

GOTG volume 3 was the only profitable Disney film in 2023. All the other 2023 Disney movies are either flops or made little profit. It had to happen on Disney's 100th year anniversary.

Universal got to rule the year 2023.
