Barbie, Super Mario Bros, Oppenheimer, Guardians 3, Across the Spider-Verse and Wonka once it sneaks in/eventually did profit, bigly. Maybe just maybe Elemental and The Little Mermaid pulled it off a little. Some other movies had inflated bugdets that didn't help them.

Don't forget Oppenheimer which did almost a billion and is still going to be released in Japan next year. M3gan and Five Nights at Freddy's made more than $450 million just by themselves, and cost a dime out of that.

Actually if Wonka is going to be the last blockbuster of 2023, and Aquaman can't make it in, Wonka would only push Quantumania off the Top 10 and leave Elemental hanging in there, while climbing on the list.

By the way since we've got to the point there are woke watchdog sites rating movies about how "woke" they are, I thought of looking at Top 10 movies to see how woke they are:

Barbie: Just for one thing has a feminist speech people still talk about

Super Mario Bros: Dropped the entire "kidnapped helpless princess for the whole story" angle and made her athletic

Oppenheimer: Reminded Nazis are awful and in a scene Oppie brings up anti-semitism was a fatal flaw during wartime

Guardians of the Galaxy 3: Didn't watch it but I know they made the High Evolutionary black (Herbert Wyndham was a white British dude in the comics) so that might have upset some bigot

Fast X: I've never seen people bashing these movies specifically for this, but the cast is pretty diverse

Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse: The lead is a minority and Gwen Stacy has a protect trans kids poster in her room (and her dad wears a transgender flag on his cop uniform)

The Little Mermaid: Making Ariel black, nuff said

Mission Impossible: This might be woke free? I assume people like Ving Rhames in general and he's a mainstay

Wonka: This is grasping for woke straws (Chalamet is white like milk) but it has 2 black main characters

Elemental: It's an allegory for race mixing and immigration (a hot political topic at any time in North America) and the leads are voiced by minorities, the director is one as well and his life experiences made it into the film

    Go woke, get rich?

Mean girls heading for $33m holiday weekend.

Beekeeper may make from $17m to $20m.

Book of clearance is a dud.

    Migration hitting $85.8m domestic.

No word on soul but reports it's not doing so well.

Aquaman 2 hits first in japan. Will it keep it by weekends end? We will see. Will be kill the dcu $400m curse after 5 years?

Wish crushes migration under her foot in korea. Crazy wish was a dud last year and now is doing well in japan, korea and other places.

I have to admit , a movie with a premise of a man who works as a beekeeper , who seeks revenge is one of the funniest premises to see. To build a story around that.
"The story so far: As usual, Ginger and I are engaged in our quest to find out what the hell is going on and save humanity from my nemesis, some bastard who is presumably responsible." - Sir Digby Chicken Caesar.
“ Well hell just froze over. Because CM Punk is back in the WWE.” - Jcogginsa.
“You can take the boy outta the mom’s basement, but you can’t take the mom’s basement outta the boy!” - LA Knight.
"Revel in What You Are." Bray Wyatt.

It's expected to make around as much on debut weekend as the last Expendables movie (also with Statham) did in North America overall.

By the way I'm glad Glen Powell is currently having a hit with Anyone But You, since his OTHER aviator movie (the one with Jonathan Majors) bombed in 2022. I hope he can pull an encore with Twisters since that also has Daisy Edgar-Jones.

I love movies with titles like "The Accountant", "The Bricklayer", and "The Beekeeper". I wonder when we're getting "The Plumber", "The Actuary", "The Dentist", or "The Retail Clerk"? And what each of them is seeking revenge for, and who they're seeking revenge against.

There was a winter storm impacting the Midwest yesterday, Winter Storm Gerri, which forced dozens of cinema closures. But that didn’t stop Paramount’s Mean Girls from hitting $11.65M (including previews), continuing to put its 4-day north of $30M at $31.5M.

Outside of Barbie post-pandemic, this is a remarkable start for a movie aimed at women, Mean Girls pulling in 73% female. On a 3-day basis, the pic is looking at $27.5M, which isn’t that far from Universal’s pre-Covid R-rated Girls Trip, which debuted to $31.2M in mid-July 2017. This redux of Mean Girls also beats the 3-day of the original 2004 movie, which debuted to $24.4M (unadjusted for inflation) in late April. In addition, the musical renaissance at the box office continues here with Mean Girls after the $39M opening, and current 4.6x multiple of Wonka ($178.1M).
    As for soul--

Disney’s rer-elease of Pixar’s Soul at 1,350 theaters, a movie that’s been on Disney+ since December 2020, is yielding empty auditoriums after a $125K Friday and expected 4-day of $516K. The movie’s previous overseas release from then is currently $121M.
Should have started with turning red.

    and--

shoutout to Toho’s Godzilla Minus One, which has just crossed $50M at the domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing Japanese language live action or animated movie ever released in the U.S./Canada. Godzilla Minus One is currently the fifth-highest grossing non-English language film at the domestic B.O.

There is already a 90s horror film called The Dentist. It had a sequel too. Lol

    UK loves wonka.

Wonka continues breaking records in the UK, staying at #1 for the 6th weekend in a row and climbing 7 positions to #34 highest grossing film of all time there, beating such films as Frozen 2 and Mario. It is also on course to dethrone Oppenheimer and The Phantom Menace in the territory.

Shin-chan movie getting incredible openings in many countries. America of course isn't getting it and even if they did, they would have no ads out for it anyway.

Aquaman's first in Japan was done after a day as spy x family shows the fish guy who is boss taking the top for another week yet again.

Well, Beekeeper is 2 things, what he does and it's also the code name for his clandestine government agency.
