A usefull enemy to point at and make responcible for everything bad, while becomming just like them.

Mutant technology, mutant circuits, producing clone bodies, digital storing their memories on and downlad from an alien piece of machinery, using Krakoa's plant matter which was suddently weirdly usable as basis for technological devices and even bionic replacements/augmentations (because they had no clue that it was directly influenced or immitating a technarc organism via Warlock), seems pretty indicative of a development in which mutants would make the same mistake as their perceived rivals or enemies, but still thinking they are better than them because of not using the exact same method.

Furthermore when one looks back at the events depicted in Moira X's life 9 in HOX/POX, it's somewhat noticable that the narrative tries to make the reader side with the mutants as much as possible, but with the white pages taken into consideration it's noticable that the mutants were the agressors who tried to conquer and replace the normal humans and the chimeras are practically just their version of the Sentinels.

Artifical made humanoid war machines and tools given merely enough mental freedom to be creative in the way they can fullfill their forced upon role in their creator's war, which eventualy reached a point of development (Generation 4) where they went out of control.

And it's life 9 where most of the building blocks for Krakoa seem to come from.*

*Something which often seems to have been overlooked is that Life 9 ends with Wolverine inserting some kind of data crystal into Moira X before killing her, which means something was written into her memories before sending her to the next life. Meaning everything she thinks is true could be fake, altered or manipulated. Which in turn would be transfered to who ever watches her memories like Charles, Erik and Emma.

Speaking of being a bad fiction dad where the hell has David been hiding? Did we even see him once during the Hellfire Janborie attack or the attack on Orchis Central?
