    Default Crpgs

CRPG is my favorite video game genre. To me there is nothing more immersive or expansive than a CRPG. Of course, my gold standard will always be Baldur's Gate 1&2, but I'm also a huge fan of the Pillars of Eternity and Pathfinder games, as well as Planescape Torment, Fallout 1&2, the Shadowrun Trilogy, Arcanum, and my all-time favorite: Neverwinter Nights.

I'm a sucker for this genre and the isometric perspective and I'm always looking for new ones to play. I have almost 1000 hours in Neverwinter Nights at this point, all from playing the different fan-made modules on the http://www.neverwintervault.org

What are your favorite CRPGS? Are you currently playing any that you would recommend?

I'm currently playing Bladur's gate 3. It is the first CRPG I've played.

What do you think so far?

I haven't played it yet, but BG 1&2 are two of my favorite games ever made.

I've got over 100 hours into it and I'm still in act 2. I'm loving it. I wasn't enjoying it when I started but once I caught wind of the immersive sim elements I got into it. The amount of things this game lets me do is amazing. I can see why it was game of the year in a lot of lists.

It's fascinating reading from veteran devs at Bioware and Obsidian talk about what basically killed CRPGs back in the 2000s, it was retailers, basically retailers had a huge impact on what studios made because obviously this was pre steam and the digital store front and PC games depended on physical sales just as much as consoles did, and they had a nasty habit of just deciding entire genres were "dead" without any real evidence beyond gut feelings. Thankfully because of studios like Larian and Owlcat have done a lot to really revitalize the genre, currently on another BG3 run as a Bard while I wait for FF7 rebirth and I fully expect it to be my go to game for in between releases for a long while
