It seemed that Ewing was setting him up to play a big part in the title (same with Manifold), but after the conflict with Solaris got resolved they left, and Ewing lost interest as he really wanted to spotlight the Arakki.

Yeah, that was pretty much Ewing losing interest in them as he got more and more into the Arakki. Don't get me wrong, some of them are interesting, but he just kept introducing more and more and I lost interest in Red. I really doubt that Breevort will have anything to do with them as a group so it was mostly wasted effort.

Honestly there are too many X-Men characters IMO. So many that it is very difficult for characters to get any significant character development now.

They need another mutant massacre to trim the fat.

I'd want to see an ongoing series featuring John Proudstar and Red Wolf, hopefully with an indigenous creative team. Define John beyond his X-Men connections. Pairing him with the time-lost Red Wolf, who feels he was died and resurrected, would make for an interesting series of conversations between the two of them.

As long as they don't trim the Proadstar Brothers.

Are either of the two brothers currently being written regularly in a monthly series?

Can Warpath still fly or was that power just a blip in the matrix?

The only reference I have is from Page One of this thread...

He's barely been used this era overall though. He was in Vita's New Mutants but largely MIA outside of that

Want to post this. John was pretty much portrayed as a just a tough guy who had nothing better to do with his life. But the Classic X-Men backstory really fleshed him out for me. He wanted belonging, comraderie (like back in the army) and a purpose.

    Here are some scans.

    Some amazing art by Bolton.

It made his death even sadder to me. He had depth and wasn't just another macho punk. It was amazing what CC could do with such a short story.

James. Before he became a hero.

Here are some scans. Unfortunately, the last scan left out the final bit of the scene where he says. "Probably, because I have nowhere else to go." I'm paraphrasing.

As always, it was Claremont work who made the character for me. Yes, he was a pretty one dimensional character before his death, it was the work done by Claremont after that made me a fan. Hopefully he gets to land in a team in the future.
