ST:ANH. That seemingly endless flyby of the Imperial Star Destroyer was jaw-dropping.

The Godfather. They eloquently tell you right away that this ain't your usual gangster pic, and we're not indulging in the usual optimistic view of The American Immigrant Story.

Airplane. Straight away it says, "buckle up, we're mocking everything!"

The majority won't agree, but an All-Time Favorite would be...

One of my favorites. The scenes and the music match well.

The movie isn't much after the 1st 30 mins or so. But this intro is still epic. Bangin track with RZA on the vocals. "Iced out like a chilly willy!"

How did we get 3 pages in and no one has mentioned the bank robbery from The Dark Knight?

Dunno if I'd say my personal fav of all time, but definitely a standout and classic of horror.

I was just about to ask this myself.

Raiders is a great choice too, a mini movie that tells a complete story and whets the appetite for more. Much like The Dark Knight. I love those types of openings.

Patton is great, and sets up the movie, but I doubt it would work in many other movies.

Friends I have recommended Perfect Blue to are often weird out by the opening, since it seems so....off....from the rest of the film. The main purpose of the scene seems to be introducing the characters who effectively serve as the Chorus (in a Shakespearean sense) to the watcher.

And that concludes my semi-random thoughts inspired by earlier posts.

And to add in to the pile for consideration....The Wrath of Khan.

    ^^^Oh god yes!
That was a brilliant piece of satire all the way through!
Remember when Richard Crenshaw bit into the pig snout sandwich and mustard came out the nose holes?

Also, I’m not sure but I think the guy Sheen fought was reprising his role from Rambo 3.

You gotta love the opeining to Deadpool, between the wacky credits to the song....
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

TWOK has kind of a cool bit of misdirection with the simulation "killing" Spock at the beginning, with Kirk even asking Spock "Aren't you dead?" a few scenes later.

News that Spock would die in the film had leaked out (Despite this being mostly pre-internet days) so it kind of gives first time viewers at the time a bit of false assurance that the whole leak was just for a "fake" scene.

Only to kill Spock for real at the end. Well, until the next movie.

Snyder's Dawn of the Dead had one of the greatest opening scenes ever.
