Er, I don't understand the timeline of when this would have worked. Lois may have been in space for a bit and didn't inform her husband at first when she came back, but they didn't divorce or break off their relationship in any way. You can't say it could've happened before because she wasn't in Metropolis back before Clark got with Lois. So there's no way for this to work other than cheating, if you're thinking of the actual comics canon.

Of course, anything can happen in an AU. In a universe where Lois died or something, I could definitely see it. She seemed like a fun character and her job could help her relate to Superman, since they both focus on saving lives. And it would be a change of pace from the old Superman + Wonder Woman if Lois dies. I like Clark dating non-superheroes.

However, next time they have an AU where Lois isn't present, they won't remember Melody exists, in all likelihood. So if you like the idea of this ship, I recommend writing a fanfiction, since it is unlikely content for it will ever be created otherwise (even by other fans, since Melody isn't a particularly well-remembered character).

None of that has anything to do with why any character Bendis made should never appear again. Bendis' run being bad does not mean that every single character he made should be off-limits and can't be used to good effect.

Williamson used Red Cloud and had her try to kill Lois and Livewire. It was great! Loads of characters don’t achieve their full potential under their original creator. Biggest example of that is Miles Morales, another Bendis creation.
