Jones was doomed the moment Belichick left. And with a QB heavy draft, Mayo likely wants to start fresh with someone to build the team around. What happened in New England was not all on him, a lot of it was Belichick changing schemes seemingly at random even though everything was mostly clicking. And just simply not getting the right support around Jones. It was obvious that the team has had doubts about him since that first year.

Maybe in Jacksonville some of the pressure will be off and Jones will have more time to develop since he will be coming in as a backup rather than the lead guy.

Low end for a playoff QB, but a good deal for both.

This sounds fair for Baker and what he has done with the team.

I'd say what doomed Jones is his own team mates didn't seem to like him in the end. Mayo likely had to weigh that one , do I really want to start my new head coaching career , trying to unite a locker room ?

I haven't seen it reported yet.

Just speculation on Steelers fan sites.

EDIT: He just posted it on his socials as did the Steelers.

Wilson signing a team-friendly, one-year deal in which the Denver Broncos, will wind up paying $38 million of his salary while he plays for the Steelers.

This deal is the NFL's version of a K-Mart Blue Light Special, given the insane amounts of money quarterbacks are getting today. But, considering all he did for Tampa this past season, why not keep him?

At this point the money is just score keeping. I mean what difference would there be in someone's life between $100 million and $120 million? What can't you afford without that $10 million a year. Your house is only 20,000 sq ft instead of 25,000?

The difference? It's $10 million more than the next guy has. Nothing more complicated than that. For players, it's all about ego, about puffing out their chests because their bank account is larger than everyone else's. To them, that level of vanity, of scorekeeping means a great deal, if not everything.

Or Baker feels it's a good offer and a good fit for him, and the chance of getting $5 or $8 million more a year at another team doesn't give him the same chances to play and win.

It all depends on the player and his situation. Mayfield found one that worked for him and was comfortable in, and I applaud him for his decision. But, there's no denying that for a goodly number of athletes, not just in football, but in all sports, the BIG check means more than a championship.

This was the same issue KC found itself facing with Tyreek Hill 2 seasons ago. Kansas City had his deal done at $100+ million for 3-4 seasons. He saw what the Raiders over paid a WR and demanded an extra $20+ million.

Does Hill regret the move and trade ? It’s very likely as he has watched KC win 2 Super Bowls since. He got his cash and numbers sure.

Kelce himself has said people told him he could get Hill type money a year or 2 ago. As he said he’s happy winning championships and is ok with what he makes. He didn’t want the extra money.

    The QB carousel so far:
    - Jones to Jags
    - Mayfield to the Bucs
    - Wilson to the Steelers
