I was always intrigued by the Shade but James Robinson made him an outstanding character with the Starman series. I loved his development and depth of character. Interestingly enough, Johns (I think it was Johns) tried something similar with Gentleman Ghost, another golden age villain I have a soft spot for.

Are there really that many fans of the Golden Age version of Star Sapphire, or are people mistaking her for Carol Ferris?
I vaguely remember that, during the time that Robinson's Starman was being published, John Byrne had taken over Wonder Woman and included a guest appearance by both Jay Garrick and the Shade. Considering that Byrne had done a story in the pages of WW in which he had tried to completely invalidate everything that been done with the Demon post-Crisis because he thought it strayed too far from Jack Kirby's original depiction of Etrigan and Jason Blood, I was worried that Byrne was going to try something similar with the Shade and Robinson's development of that character.
I like Golden Age Star Sapphire! Her concept and costume is cool and it's funny to me that she was a Flash villain.
