When did it become okay for celebrities to do commercials

Lost in space had a bunch of guest stars. So did bonanza and of course sesame street and muppet show was full of guest stars and scooby-doo had two seasons of guest stars.

Even the simpsons was on sesame street!

Basically, what people are noticing is the end if a bubble when it was considered unseemly for big stars to do ads. It isn't so much a change as a return to normal. It just seems like a change to those not old enough to remember the period before that bubble first appeared.
