Fantastic Four takes place in an alternate universe
Thing is reading a LIFE magazine from 1963 in the first poster and the latest poster shows a kind of retro futuristic NYC (?), the signs/hints are all there.

Judging by the look of the posters and the rumors about the children being in it, I’m wagering to bet the FF are in some kind of reality that Franklin created.
The new poster featuring Joseph Quinn's Human Torch (notice the buildings in the back)

...just out of curiosity, for no reason whatsoever mind you, how many people will know who Shalla-Bal is as opposed to say Norrin Rad?
The same amount who knew who rocket, groot, men in black, blade, shang chi, sin city and the mask were before the movies.
Not many.
Seems a waste to not use Frankie Raye's Nova instead, she is a vastly more well know herald vs the alt reality D-list Shalla-Bal Silver Surfer. She really reads like a What If...? story that some editor just approved.
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" - Optimus Prime
I'd like to think this decision came from the story they wanted to tell rather than just picking characters then figuring out a story afterwards, or Feige wanting to avoid Norin because he was in the other movie.
If this is an alt earth and the alt earth surfer and they end up in the mcu by movies end they may be saving nova for the main universe.
