I think casting Cavill as any Superman expy (Hyperion, Gladiator, Sentry) reeks of stunt casting.

It would be interesting to see him in a villain role. I think he could do a great Sebastian Shaw.

He is a pretty good villain in Mission Impossible.

Cavill also seems to have played a few Bond expys (Argylle, Man from Uncle, arguably MI) although not being ever cast for the role, but coming fairly close during the Casino Royale casting process and Martin Campbell said he would've been a great Bond if Craig wasn't there (Of course this is the same Martin Campbell who said Green Lantern would be bigger than Star Wars). Seems he might still have a slight chance, even.


It's happened before. James Brolin almost getting Bond led to a few spy roles and a send up in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. Brosnan after he lost the role due to contract issues in 97 but before Goldeneye. Idris Elba now as well.

Nothing wrong with stunt casting. There aren't all that many actors of his build and looks. Blame comics for the stunt part, comic artists are the ones who draw all those similar characters in a similar way.

It's a mostly white cast so I don't think it is going to stop mcu fans who are still excited about the franchise from watching the movie.

Maybe they are still going multiverse but I would have much rather had Norrin Radd as Silver Surfer here.

To be fair it's not been confirmed that Norrin Rad won't be in this movie or future movies, just that this movie's Silver Surfer is Shalla-Bal. And it's not a Mar-Vell situation where the character was gender bent, she is an existing character and has been portrayed as Silver Surfer before. Most notably (in my mind) in Earth X...

and wasn't there a whole team of Silver Surfers in the Ultimate universe? My memory's a bit foggy on that one.

People upset at the SS casting for no reason, like they forget this film takes place in an alternate universe. So Shalla-Bal will be the SS of that universe, while we most likely see Norrin in the main line MCU. Hyped for this film and cast.

That's not widely known, nor has it actually been confirmed. Even the 60s period piece setting is unconfirmed.
