Well, Righteous's goal was to be a dominion too wasn't it ? So the Phoenix would have been an issue for her anyways, Enigma or not.

Oooh Gillen honoring the Claremont, Morrison, and Pak interpretations that the Phoenix replacement was not literal. She is just consumed by her Phoenix Consciousness or a part of herself (the Phoenix and Jean being pieces of each other and parts of a whole.) "The part of her that eats stars and dominions steps closer". Love it!

Of course he also honored this in Immortal 18, "she is of the Phoenix in a real and unbreakable way". She guides it and it guides her. In a circle without beginning or end".

I enjoyed Gillen's Eternals series, but Enigma's narration feels like a repeat of Earth's narration in the Eternals. It is a conceit that is less enjoyable, now that it is being repeated.

Bingo. He created the AI to "capture" the data from each of their attempts at Dominion. Once the final clone (MR) reached it, Enigma came online.
