Default What color is Storm's Jim Lee costume?

Jim Lee introduced one of Storm's most iconic looks in the X-Men reboot of the early 90s.
I read on a reddit thread years ago that Jim Lee had intended it to be a shiny black leather, but intention isn't the same as perception. As coloring techniques advanced, later artists depicted it as white, silver, gray, and black. Even her figures/toys show all different variations.

The question is, what color do you see it as?

Ah yes the X-men fandom version of the "what color is that dress" internet debate. 30 years ahead of it's time.

Even Marvel isn't sure. In the past few years, the Marvel Legends line of action figures has put out white and black versions of the costume.

Silver/grey... The "black" parts always read as highlights/lightning to me. Meanwhile I think the "white" parts are too big and too bright to be just highlights of a black costume.

I always assumed it was supposed to be very glossy, shiny patent leather, just like the Outback costumes but the inking and coloring at the time never captured it well; be it gunmetal/silver/gray whatever it was never meant to be white. It’s nearly at the bottom for my prefered Storm looks anyway, why did she need linebacker shoulderpads and decide to cover all the way up for the first time?!

They did the same thing back in the day.

Honestly don't know for sure, but it's not white.

I thought it was based on her original outfit which was a shiny black, but most of the time in Lee's run, there was more white than black -- so it may have been silver.

Honestly am not a fan of most of Jim Lee's designs -- though I did like his art at the time. Now, I find it a little too static and posey, but still pretty. The only two designs that I thought were good were Cyclops and Rogue.

The 90s costume is white. The one it's based on (and my fave Storm costume) is definitely black. The shinier they made the black leather, the more it eventually shifted to an all white look. (Insert joke about Sunspot.)

Its been predominantly silver and its been black. I prefer the black look but it loks good either. Definitely her most iconic.
