And I think they should be supporting characters only, at least at the start. Plenty of supporting characters have had their own series at one time or another but they didn't start out that way.

I guess I always see Lex as somewhere between villain and supporting cast, I guess. There's a lot of Superman stories where he isn't in the villain and is just present as part of the Metrpolis cast. Or something like Smallville, where he isn't even a villain most of the time. But I get why he might not count nonetheless.

Yeah that's true. Still, he started as a villain and I think overall he is thought of as a villain.
