I'm rereading Simone's Secret Six run (pre-new52), and she's really at her best with darker stories and characters. Although, I'm not sure the x-books, or the x-fans, are ready for that. Don't get me wrong, I loved her Birds of Prey series, but Secret Six was on another level.
Darker stories and characters is fine, I mean the main books themes already deal with hate-groups and genocide, so I'm not sure what other taboo topics or themes would be off-limits?

Not to mention all the interpersonal drama like cheating, jealousy, insecurities, etc...

How are you with people being tortured to death? With the "good guys'" blessings. (Admittedly, the guy deserved it.)

I mean it wouldn't be out of character for a fair few morally ambiguous members. Wolverine, Magik, Magneto, Emma, etc... have all probably tortured people at one time or another. Cyclops ok'd a mutant death squad. Beast has committed genocide.

Most of these have happened in more satellite titles, but it's not new territory.

I think it's only out of pocket depending on the character. Like Jean, Kurt, and Colossus likely wouldn't be ok with these methods, but exploring these topics and the conflicts within them seems fine.

I agree, but it's not just that they do it, it's how she writes it. Honestly, I'm not sure how that series got published without a parental advisory. I mean, Catman just calmly explains to a grieving father how best to to torture a child molesting serial killer, and it's pretty clear he knows what he talking about. From experience.

I dont know about Pete, he did kill Riptide willingly and out of anger. Kurt and Jean probably. Though if they kept that thread Alan started with Kurt (He threatened Nigels life) Well, Ellis sort of did, we may have had a whole different Kurt now.

I think outside of like, Punisher level torture porn it'd probably still be alright. But then again, it does depend on the frequency and intensity if it really fits the "flagship" series. I can see the main title being dark, but the main message should still be about hopeful co-existence and super-heroics.

I think Colossus would have to be driven to the edge to outright support torture. He has killed and beat Pete Wisdom out of jealousy, but that's not really the norm for him I think.

I'm assuming it's probably going to be a pivot tonally from FoX (not that Duggan's taken the storyline that seriously anyways but...).

Simone wrote Secret Six but she also wrote Birds of Prey, Action Comics, and Wonder Woman.

I’ll just be glad to have some insight into what’s next, as I hate the long “treading water” period whenever one era winds down and a new one is set to begin but you don’t have any details yet. This one in particular has seemed really, really long. Ready to get on with it already, whatever may come.

I wonder why Marvel didn't announce all this at C2E2. I guess they wanted to sync up the announcement with the hype of "X-Men '97."
And I can't wait until Beau DeMayo finally speaks out on his firing.

I thought they might wait until C2E2 also but maybe there's going to be some new stuff in the June solicits that they want to officially announce ahead of time.

Also SXSW has about 4-5x the number of attendees and thus I’d imagine a lot more exposure, impressions, etc. So if you want to make a splash and maybe lure some lapsed readers back or possibly create some new ones, I’d say it’s probably the better event to do so.

Yup and Gail's writing is loved that when she got "fired" there was a fan campaign that brought her back.

I am so excited about this announcement.
