The Uncanny X-Men finds Gambit returning to Louisiana with Rogue, who find 4 new mutant outliers. Written by Gail Simone and inked by David Marquez. Rogue, Gambit, and their new mutants become “Outlaw Heroes” in New Orleans in this arc. Tom Brevoort promises this era of X-Men puts characters back in the real world with non-mutants.

I don’t think they looked at Ewing, judging by Jubilee’s team. I think they looked at X-Men ‘97, which so happens to have Mohawk Storm.
