I respect that, but I dig most of what Wells is putting down, both the sillies (Rek-Rap) and the less-so (World Without Love).

Does it feel like two books smooshed into one? Yeah, more than most big 2 stuff, but there was that New Mutants run where Hickman did half the issues and Brisson did the other half, which was more jarring. There, I just skipped the Brisson issues. With Wells, I'm happy to read regardless of tone.

Also I'd say that post-OMD spidey is by design slightly incongruent with what came before, much in the same manner as Avengers post-Bendis are with the classic stuff, or post-Claremont X-Men with the Lee/Kirby originals

I just feel like Spencer, for example, handled it better.

Like he started off with simpler, straightforward, stories before diving into the deeper and more serious storylines but afterwards he didn't immediately pivot to cartoon antics and actually let characters process what happened so it felt like their emotions and the stuff they were involved in had weight. And there was just more consistency in creative vision (at least up until the latter half of the run).

I don't get that from Wells.

They have reached this far in idioticy, now I'm convinced they can turn Mary Jane into the new Black Cat in a similar way than in "Beyond".

To be fair, I'm not sure he ever had meaningful ideas early in his run, either.

The book on this run seems to be "Piss people off!" and "Norman is the true hero!"

But that also had stakes with the hero commiting genocide and then sacrificing herself (stakes that really don't/can't exist in modern Marvel comics). And with the trope being repeated so often (twice in this run) it just becomes tiresome.
