Default X-Men Forever #2 Burns for Jean Grey (Preview)

'X-Men: Forever' #2 First Look Burns for Jean Grey

In a special first look at 'X-Men: Forever' #2, Hope Summers lights a funeral pyre while the rest of mutantkind flourishes under the circumstances.

The end of the Krakoan Age is upon us—and so are the answers to the questions that have lingered since it first began.

In X-MEN: FOREVER (2024) #2, Kieron Gillen and Luca Maresca will continue to address the mysteries that emerged with the dawn of Krakoa, as well as the ones that lay at the heart of IMMORTAL X-MEN (2022). Tying into FALL OF THE HOUSE OF X (2024) and RISE OF THE POWERS OF X (2024), X-MEN: FOREVER (2024) bridges the gap between the end of the Quiet Council and the beginning of the end of the Krakoan Age.

A special first look at X-MEN: FOREVER (2024) #2 finds Mother Righteous under interrogation by Destiny, Hope Summers, and Exodus, all still dressed in their Hellfire Gala finest. One page sees them discussing the results, while two other mutants gather fruit from strange plants blooming in the depths of a cave—one of whom seems suddenly startled.

In another page, Exodus looks over the mutants who have found a way to survive and thrive in the White Hot Room. Finally, Hope approaches a funeral pyre, where Jean Grey lays at rest; with a wave of her hand, Hope lights it up, sparking an inferno that blazes against the night sky.

Jean Grey in the words of Walt Whitman, from his masterpiece Leaves of Grass, "Song of Myself" (51 and 52):

"Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)"

"Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, Missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you."

Notably, the framed image of Exodus overlooking the crowd of mutants is from one of Destiny's visions back in Immortal X-Men. So that's the culmination of that vision, apparently.

The Phoenix Three??!! Love it. Or a new Phoenix Corp in the making? Jean Grey could start her own Green Lantern Corp in the Marvel Universe.

A cover is a cover is a cover... or is this what/who the Phoenix book will be about?

i'm obsessed with this cover and the joy it transmits. Not a troubled alone soul being consumed by a dark force. Just three gals ready to **** **** up and smiling. :-)

    ...

Gosh, I hate the current regress into "genocide danger"-scenario in the X-Men comics. you can say whatever you like about Hickman, at least he empowered the mutant metaphor with something new.

Is that Jean (center), Hope (right) and Rachel (left)?

If so, I think we know who will feature in the upcoming Phoenix series now.

Luca Maresca is really doing it for me. Great preview and I LOVE that cover. I wonder if it does indeed foreshadow things to come with the Phoenix title.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they appear in the series—and that would be poetically beautiful, tbh—but based on Gail's Twitter post, I'm still leaning toward the series being mostly a Jean solo.

My two interpretations of that last preview page: Either (1) Jean is self-combusting (notice the flame sparks dancing around Hope before she reaches out to touch one) or (2) Hope is burning Jean with the fire with which Jean imbued her in Jean Grey 4. Either option works for me, tbh.

Artist drive me nuts with who they create. There is a big bulky squid headed guy. Hello not-Sammy. Why not create a new mutant instead of half butting it. Same with the obvious Beak standin.

Was about to say the same thing. Instead of all these randos we will never see again, there’s an entire handbook of mutants to choose from.annoying!!

Exactly and I find it disrespectful to use a character design that is very specific, like a squid head, for randos when there exists a character like it already. Its basically sorry Sammy but your not the only squid head anymore. we are going to create a one time rando background character instead of using you.
