Default Favorite Legion of Super Heroes storyline

From any variation, what is your favorite Legion of Super Heroes storyline.

Mine is pretty much a cliche' but it's definitely The Great Darkness Saga. I loved the mystery of who the Master of Darkness was, the Legion leader battle, the groups working in different areas, the great reveal, and the final battle. Plus, the creepy threat made by Darkseid at the end. The writing, Giffen's incredible art, and the pacing all made for a phenomenal story.

Sadly, haven't had the chance to read much. But of the few I did read, a personal fave would be...

    "It's a Magic Number!"

It's as they say: Sometimes your first story stays your favorite. For me "CONSPIRACY" "UNIVERSO PROJECT" and "WHO IS SENSOR GIRL?" are still tops with me because that era is what converted me from a casual reader to a bonafide Legionnaire devotee. Tales, Baxter series, all of that continuity confusion from the direct and the newsstand simultaneous reprint, I was hooked. It was great how the story threads weren't always separate arcs but simultaneously woven into the canvas until they were ready to POP.

Definitely, another personal fave would be "O! Call Back Yesterday!" (XD)

Still love how it set-up the "Time-Bomb with the Thousand-Year Fuse!"

Aside from the usual classics, I really liked the "Legion Lost" mini. Yes, it was dark,(I loved Coipel, but disliked the other artist on it) but it was also earned and tense and gave us insights into the various "lost" members as we had a different narrator for each issue.

The first couple of Earth War issues are amazing with stellar art by Sherman and McLeod. This splash page hooked me on the Legion immediately as a little kid and I've never looked back.

Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes issues 250-251 the Omega story. Brainiac 5 has been suffering a total mental breakdown and creates a creature so powerful it blows right through the entire team. No one can stop this creature created of pure hate. Even Legion headquaters is completely destroyed.

This is the next one that jumped out at me as a kid. I still remember my Uncle buying this for me when he was in town visiting for the first time. This issue made me an Ultra Boy fan for life. He can only use one power at a time but he took on the entire Legion and almost got away. Amazing.

This next one saw the return of James Sherman and this time inking himself if I remember correctly. The art was outstanding and begins with the Legion working on rebuilding their HQ which was destroyed in the issue Zero Hunter posted above. This one has some great character moments between the Legionnaires that was rarely seen back then.

I preferred James Sherman to Mike Grell. Grell was too stylized on Legion -- putting characters in awkward poses. He improved vastly by the time he created Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters. Sherman's style was closer to Dave Cockrum's -- the run that made me love the Legion.

Unfortunately Sherman's short run was marred by inkers that weren't a good match for his work. Thank Goodness we got some issues inked by McLeod, Rubinstein and himself. Those issues are some of the best the Legion's ever looked.

    Legion bits I love;

    Universo Project
    Superboy's Legion
    Who Is Sensor Girl?

I like Great Darkness Saga, but sometimes feel like it's a bit overhyped.

Lots of other great mentions. Earthwar, Death of An Ryd, etc.

It had its moments. But yeah, it's still quite noteworthy.

The fact is, unless one is able to experience the slow burn of it developing monthly and be surprised by the villain reveal, it's not going to be the same. That said, I read it in tpb and knew who the villain was, but I still loved it.
