Oh and in the case of Laura Kinney they totally did make a true clone. She wasn't dead but got "resurrected". Also, the copy has a full adamantium skeleton not just claws.

Also in one issue we find out the genetic database Sinister had provided is actually corrupted, so they're not 100% the same.... and this corruption can affect their personalities and make them turn evil.

They should've used that to explain Beast's heel turn.

That woulda been a good idea. Maybe even explain the time he had more feline features, the clone defective over time. Perfect way to experiment with a new look while keeping the classic look at the same time.

My fear is that - without threads like this keeping the circumstance alive - modern writers who, let's face it - aren't continuity-driven like M. Gruenwald or K. Busiek - will lose track / not care / forget - and it will get to the point where these clones have built up enough history & exposure that it will be harder & harder to resolve / reconcile the issue. The more time that passes without resolution, the harder it will be to make a case that the clones aren't the originals.

Nowadays, everybody in the Marvel universe has died and returned at least once (even the random civilians), so... YES.

They really went out of their way to say 'nope, Not Beast' too at the time.

As an old argument goes: " If you can't tell the difference, is it really a difference?" Star Trek Voyager played with this. Naomi Wildman, and Harry Kim were duplicated, along with the entire ship and crew in one episode. But these duplicates were functionally identical to the originals, and at the end of the episode... baby Naomi, and Harry live, while the originals had died, and all the other duplicates die. So for the rest of the series.... we have dupes instead of the originals, and no one cares because they're exact enough copies to not differ in any noticeable way.

Ha, the Snowball V scene, Skinner points out it's cheating to refer to her as Snowball II, and Lisa references a previous episode where it had been revealed that Seymour isn't Agnes's real son! The principal is a hypocrite.

Marvel has done other things in the past besides clones. Mind rebooting.

Some characters also could be copies of copies.

There's kind of a weird thing with the Hulk too. During the Jason Aaron run Doctor Doom actually managed to separate Banner and the Hulk and make it more stable by giving the Banner personality a clone body.

Think that's also kind of what happened in Heroes Reborn, although the Banner body was able to make itself into a second Hulk. Aaron's Banner tried this and it didn't work.

Then Banner and the Hulk got caught in a gamma bomb that re-merged the clone Banner with the Hulk's body.

A lot of the more recent transformations have also involved Hulk ripping through Banner's body, although this also happened once in the Peter David era, although in a less gory fashion.

Recently Banner's body was taken into the 'below place' leaving a weakened Savage Hulk and Joe Fixit as the main Earthbound personas, and had the human version of Joe-with mustache and sideburns-emerge from the husk of Savage Hulk to escape from Henry Gyrich!

Although it's pretty clear in Banner's case it's the same 'soul' -the Green door and all that, and normally the Hulk's healing abilities help him to return from death anyway, although sometimes with a bit of help (Zola, the Hand, Grandmaster etc. between Civil War 2 and Immortal)

Though I love Chris Claremont and his storytelling, this whole clone thing rest at his feet. In one issue of Uncanny X-Men from 1990, Black Widow was revealed to be a child in the 1940s even though she was a woman who couldn't be older than thirty at the most. Even back then I had a problem with dropping this story point because he was doing it for a character who was not appearing in the book, and he had no plans to write regularly.

    Not really.

Like Fury and the other Howling Commandos, Widow was probably taking the infinity serum. I'm pretty sure she was introduced as the lost Russian princess long before that story as well.
