could be interesting, depending on the choices.

is the idea to restrict it to characters that were already around when it first came out? or is there leeway on that front?

As long as Dr. Doom is there, the story can go on anyway with little changes. Just check Spider-Man's animated series.

I like these suggestions, though Puma was a good guy as far as I remember, despite being an occasional Spidey antagonist.
