Default Planetary fans:! READ OUTSIDERS !!!!!!!!!!

The Game is afoot. Reading the latest issue of the Outsiders with surprises & twist I have to say the book will have Planetary fans curious & hopeful that the worlds are still strange & we need to keep it that way .

Really? I read the first issue and didn't care for it. Just felt like Diet Planetary at best.

I am going to give it a read but don't hold your breath I'm sure DC will muck it up some how yet I did spot a snowflake on the cover of issue 6.

Was this changed from an ongoing series to a 12 issue maxi series? It was promoted as an ongoing but Newsarama says it is a maxi series. Wondering if it was changed or if Newsarama is incorrect.

Planetary is one of the best comics of all time in my humble opinion but I just can’t bring myself to read this. Why call it The Outsiders and then have it wear a cheap Planetary mask?

    No it's 12 issues.

I had a feeling DC was going to find a way to screw this up, if an Outsiders book without the Bat is actually interesting they won't give it a chance at all.

Yeah, I find it weird to even try a book like this. I gave the first issue a shot because I LOVE Planetary and was curious.

It's a cheap KO of the original series. It's pretty horrible given the writing team. Definitely not worth the money.

The original series wasn't built on plot twists. For example the Fourth Man reveal was telegraphed many issues ago that it was hardly a twist or reveal. Planetary was very much a worldbuilding series that wanted to tell a secret history of the WS universe that included kaijus, pulp heroes, evil Fantastic Four even before Maker, etc. Planetary had far more breadth, depth and vision than this iteration of Outsiders.

I'd actually advise Planetary fans to pretend this book doesn't exist.

Outsiders is riding the coattails of Planetary.

    Who asked for this, really?

I'm looking it. Actually surprised by the hate.
ConnEr Kent flies. ConnOr Hawke has a bow. Batman's kid is named DamiAn.

To do spoiler tags, use [ spoil ] at the start of the sentence and [ /spoil ] at the end, without the spaces. You're welcome!

It’s just that Planetary is pretty sacred to a lot of people (myself included) and it’s just weird to take the concepts and shove them into an “Outsiders” book. It’s not Planetary and it’s not the Outsiders.

It’s like taking Watchmen and shoving it into a DC event book. Wait…

It’s also a bit annoying to take one of the best written books of the modern era and use aspects for an under the radar basically meaningless (in the grand scheme of DC’s current direction) book that will probably be quickly forgotten.

On the plus side it may get a few more people to go out and read the actual masterpiece that is Planetary.
