I really enjoyed this issue...
Don't you feel the tension? do you feel the anguish? Didn't you feel liberated when Diana broke the lasso and grabbed the Sovereign by the neck?
Also the scenes with the Wonder Girls and Hyppolita... oh yeah, what a wonderful issue.
And thank you Sampere, you really make a difference.
Great issue, powerful epic stuff seeing Diana break free of the lies and gripping Sovy's vulture neck.
Wonder whats Sovy's plan now. Maybe he has a contingency lie beneath the fantasy, a secret trigger to be activated later.
Also the Wonder Girls bullying Steel is hilarious, man certainly deserves it.
Will say though, without the art quality and the colouring difference between the lies and reality, this issue would not have landed as hard for me
This was nice.
Though with DC I'm sure there's a Shazam or Teen Titans books that will namedrop Daddy Zeus and undo this.
First half dragged a bit, second half was good. I even found myself smiling.
Also is Sovereign finally gonna STFU now?
Also the Wonder Girls torturing Steel was funny.
~I just keep swimming through these threads~
Honestly feels like the Big Two are too scared for overtly religious themed villains nowadays; since when have the Purifiers shown up in X-Men?
I didn't like it, basically it was Wonder Woman telling me my God isn't real and I'm foolish for believing in Him. I know that's not true, and it also seemed needlessly blasphemous, especially coming from a fictional character. I'm stopping here before I start witnessing and come off like some novice religious nut. lol
Too late! I know. lol
The art was terrific though. Sampere was great as always, but the small coloring touches made it stand out from other issues. The way the sunlight dappled through the trees to cast shadows of leaves on Yara, the cosmetics overload, and the harsh flatness of the pastel sequences only on certain items, like Steve's tie and Diana's headband were all amazing. But to nitpick Yara's costume isn't drawn right (the belt should be higher and the breastplate's bottom point lower) and the randomness of the tiara's star placement bothers me. Other artists make it sit perfectly in the "v".
So even though the Sovereign holds all the levers of power and Presidents bow to him, the boat steadily sails in the opposite direction to where the Captain's steering it, away from its intended destination. And for some reason this is the story that ex-CIA dude wants to tell
That would fit with the solicit for issue #9:
Could be an attempt to address the whole "Does Diana being with a man invalidate her" discussion.REUNITED WITH STEVE TREVOR! The ultimate test! As Sovereign's grip on Wonder Woman's psyche tightens, she retreats into the arms of Steve Trevor. Will their love for the ages prove victorious over the web of Amazon lies weaved in Man's World? Plus, Trinity lets the dogs out!
So Marvel did the Outer Circle. And DC does the Sovereign. Ehhhh weird.
