X-Men '97: Episode 5 Review/Spoilers

Probably the weakest episode so far. Sadly only in contest with LF part 1 for that title. For me LF loses to much from being rushed, it needs to be spread out. Given time to breath and let us feel the impact. Now it just feels like a highlights version of the story with a sailor moon sequence at the end for Storm.

I was one of those who felt content with having Xavier taken out of an active part of the show. It allowed others to grow and change. So now he is back just the way it was guessed.

The end reveal does very little for me. All in all an episode built to act as a buffer and ultimately one that didn’t move me much. I’m trying to not compare it to episode 5 but it’s hard not to. If we are to do a slow episode I prefer it if it is about the impact of episode 5 and not what mostly feels like a detour to set up future stories and finish side stories.

So now that we know Xavier survived, exactly why is he allowing the X-men to think he’s dead instead of you know updating them on his status? It’s not tracking that he wouldn’t have communicated to them that the Shi’ar medicine worked

Not quite. She's also described as an "atavistic throwback"... which means she looks like the Shi'ar equivalent of a caveman I guess? She doesn't really have any cool powers even.

She's literally describe as a "Shi'ar Mutant" though.

And plenty of Marvel's mutants don't have cool powers. There's one that sh*t's ice cream for pete's sake.

One thing that bugs me is how Storm and Professor simply silence voices of opponents and they portray it as badass. I felt Professor X was preaching, not teaching. I feel like that scene in the classroom would have been better served if there was a strong opposing character. I think of Spike in that Thanksgiving episode of Buffy. The way he talked down to Gladiator after Gladiator saved them really bothered me. His smug smirk when he belittled Gladiator made me want to smack Professor X. Gladiator is the goat. Also hated that apple in Deathbirds mouth. Professor has always been cautious with his powers. Now he is being a complete jerk with them. Exploiting his powers to get people to think only his way of thinking is correct.

This reminds me when Storm used the phrase "do not think" towards the politicians. like don't ever use that phrase to anyone and present it as a badass moment. We need more thinking not less

I'm happy to see Gladiator done well but this episode made me hate the professor

[Uncanny X-Man]

I thought this was another brilliant episode. I loved catching up with the Professor on Chandilar and how they fleshed out the Shi'Ar a bit more. And then of course Ororo was the real MVP of the episode. I wish they had spent a bit more time building up her relationship with Forge as we basically just have to assume they spent quite some time together before The Adversary showed up.

That said, the scene when she defeats her demon, get back her powers and pulls another quasi-magical girl transformation... that was SO epic, especially accompanied by a beautiful theme. I really love that she's now sporting her original Dave Cockrum look and I just cannot wait to see how the opening credits will be updated to reflect that.
