This is NOT AN ENTRY, since it's not a cover. But this topic demands that someone post Roy Lichtenstein's (in)famous painting "WHAAM!", which is on permanent display at London's Tate Gallery:

This painting was "inspired" (i.e., pretty much "appropriated") from a splash panel drawn by Irv Novick in DC's All-American Men of War #89 (February 1962):

Note that it wasn't a total swipe, since Lichtenstein made some changes to the attacking aircraft. He did this by being "inspired" by a panel drawn by Jerry Grandenetti in the very next issue of that same comic:

Incidentally, Dave Gibbons has created his own commentary on the Lichtenstein "WHAAM!" painting:

The problem isn't it's a dog house, the problem is it is a WWI Sopwith Camel Bi-Plane not a fighter jet.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

For that matter, aren't the US fighter aircraft on the L.B.Cole cover posted by Shalla Bal actually Lockheed P-38 Lightnings (a propeller airplane)? I'm no authority on WWII aircraft, so I'm sure that someone who is can provide the answer. (Of course, Rule 7 always applies, so I suppose it doesn't really matter.)

Ah! Fair enough! I admit to not knowing a Sopwith Camel's appearance and how it works (I'm going to guess 'elves'). I'll choose another then. Thanks, Kirby101

Also, I don't know why it's still showing the Peanuts cover as attached. The Wonder Woman one is now the entry.

    Some great covers.

I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Just a tip, when looking for an entry remember jets have no propellers.
