I believe Ikea sells doors for each individual cube, not for the whole Kallax unit. But that also doesn't address the lack of a backing on the unit and I would imagine very few walls are perfectly flush to prevent dust or other common household bugs from entering from the back.

Like ChinBo said, Billys have door options and they're also sealed from the back.

There are a number of sites that sell custom doors and other things for various Ikea furniture line but if you're shelling out that kind of money you could probably just afford better custom built shelves the first time around.

Not just the books but statues and action figures as well.
I tried the compressed air duster sprays but the ones I got from Poundland ran out very quickly and weren't too effective. Other brands seem unreasonably pricey (it's basically just air).
    Any tips?
On a similar note, I've run out of shelf space again and while shuffling the collection around on the shelves I've gotten to the point where I'm going to have to start keeping some of my premium books (Omnis, Library Editions, Absolutes, etc...) on the bottom shelves of my Expedits. I've previously reserved the bottom shelves for PHC's and regular sized HC's. I dust my shelves regularly but has anyone had any issues with dirt \ dust damaging their books on the bottom shelf? Paranoid minds want to know!

i have the biggest expidit they sold (see my shelfporn link below) and ive never seen any damage to the books in the bottom cubbies. in fact i think you are smart to put your biggest \ heaviest books in the bottom row just to create some extra weight stability.

You're using both sides of the expedit. That's really neat.
I don't have the space to place mine like that.

I've always kept my larger books on the bottom, and the only real difference i've noticed is some dust will accumulate on the top of books. I've not noticed this on the higher up shelves.

Looking for a suggestion on a book case for custom bound hardcover books, I got about 40 - 50" to work with for width and height is not a problem. Any suggestions for a good solid bookcase to hold a bunch of hardcover books.

Probably custom built or something way above the mass produced shelves most of us here buy.

Sorry to bump this topic with potential offtopicness, but if mods feel I should make my own thread, I shall.

So I'm not looking for shelving and display advice, but I am looking for MOVING advice. I'm moving away from my home and will pack all my hardcovers/omnis to boxes, i'm an European so what should be my best place to get some good boxes and any tips and recommendations? I was thinking of getting some Ikea boxes, should I go for their plastic ones or good ol' fashioned brown boxes?

I would recommend checking out a convenience store or a McDonalds they usually have loads of boxes. In case of a smaller shop you might even do them a favor.

Ikea boxes are good. pretty cheap. The ones they make for papers are like a bit smaller those are great for Trades and oversized hard covers.

Ditto on used boxes. Be prepared for a workout if you have a large collection. It all boils down to do you want to make a 100 trips with smaller boxes or fewer trips with very heavy boxes. When I first moved, I had a 50 long boxes filled. I was in shape then and it kicked my butt. Good luck moving.
