I have a custom made shelf ftom a old unused shelf for shoes (my father was going to throw it away so I took it, don't know why he would buy something like that in the first place though). I placed some wood over the existing support bars and took some of those bars out for more room. It works perfectly and it practically didn't cost me a dime.

Here it is while the glue was drying

Hey if I got one of those shelves is there a better looking way to display short boxes? And by that I guess I'm just asking for a more attractive way to store comics. Like a clear plastic box of the same dimensions.

Do they make a 5x5 Kallax? I can't seem to find one.

Also, I know everyone has been really happy with the Expedit, I have one myself. Is all the bitching about the Kallax just that, or are they not as good?

Anyone have ways to buy boxes that are clear that could display comics more? Or just a short box sized thing with a lower cover maybe?

No they do don't list a 5x5 Kallax in catalog or on website . I got Kallax shelving and I am pleased with them . Though I thought I seen a Expedit one before they changed lines .

Just bought a couple of comic mounts from comilock.com or comic mount.com The comic mount the invisible morphing display unit cm 00001 . Can be mounted to wall to display a cgc or regular comic . Also can convert to a display stand . Got 2 unit for 20 bucks from a local dealer . Work really nice to show of my cgc comics and can change books very easy .

The Kallax maxes out at 4x4. That was one of the two changes made from the Expedit: removing the 5x offerings (everything is either 4,2 or 1x; and the thickness of the outer timber was slightly reduced (by about 1/2").

I rescued an old book/brochure spinner rack and I started to clean it up and modify it for comics. It will look great with comics when finished.

Other ideas I've found is creating my own book jackets. About a month ago on Robot 6's Shelf Porn, a monthly collector placed his collection on book shelves and was grouping them in key runs http://robot6.comicbookresources.com...ks-shelf-porn/. His book jackets looked pretty good. I'm trying to simulate the idea with my own comics.

I made the covers and the spine on Microsoft Word, printed, glued together, and covered with packaging tape. I started to add an extra comic board to add an extra layer of protection. Here's another comic forum with some basic directions.

Default Displaying your shelf porn - recommendations for shelving units

Ikea is opening up a shop around my hometown. I'm wary of picking up shelves from Ikea due to the weight of my Omnibuses, trades, OHC. My collections consists of about 200 books, with a fourth of them being omnis or HCs.

Have you had any success in getting shelves from Ikea or anywhere else? (I ask about Ikea because I know they make product specific items) What do you recommend?
