What video games have a non-white or non-Asian protagonist?

I've pretty much just noticed that a lot (at least the ones I've been playing) of the popular video games/franchises (Infamous, Tomb Raider, Uncharted, Bioshock) are basically 'whitebread' or martial arts games the character is Asian. But are there any where the character is Black or maybe Hispanic/Latino? They seem to be underrepresented in video games.

Not that I really care much I just found it sort of interesting.

Every Sports game ever. And some martial arts games, if you're Shaq. (Oh, the early marketing fails of celebs and video games. Michael Jackson had one, too.)

Game came out quite a while but was a pretty unique & interesting game to me. Others I can think of are True Crime Streets of N.Y, Gears of War Judgement which focuses primarily on Baird & Cole, & Prototype 2, GTA San Andreas, GTAV where as has already been stated one of the 3 main protagonists is black (Franklin) & you've also got Sazh from Final Fantasy XIII (not the main protagonist but still a pretty good character in my opinion)


As far as Hispanics/Latinos the only game that pops into my mind immediately are the "Just Cause" games. I'm sure there's some more out there but that's the first one that I can think of.

Some of the best games out there allow you to choose your race and gender. I hope that trend continues, as I'm sure I'm not the only one tired of playing as the same old white male character.

With exception of characters you can create, I generally assume most characters created by a Japanese producer are Asian, unless otherwise stated (like Mario, or Snake). So Link, all those Final Fantasy people, etc are de facto asian.

However I just realized the OP said specifically 'non-asian' so I got really nothing. Since their aren't a lot of Hispanic, Indian or African nations producing video games their aren't a lot of characters of that ethnicity. Most games nowadays are make your own characters though, so I always make a dark skinned man or woman.

I've never played Prince of Persia but I thought there was a lot of flack about the game because people thought that he looked too white.

Donkey Kong, Mario, and I suppose if you really tried to, Wolf from Star Fox.

Donkey Kong is either from Africa or Vietnam, likely the latter because his father likely got captured when embroiled in Gorilla Warfare back in the sixties, which led to Mario, an Italian-American, enslaving him. Thus, Donkey kong happens.

Wolf's VA is African American therefore I can identify him as such.

Race is honestly pretty bullshit because it seems to me people will use it to umbrella you under a particular group regardless or because of your opinions. We should be more specific and less generalizing. Instead of calling someone you know white or black it should be Caucasian or African-American. Someone supporting this form of equality used the term "Japanese white people" though so I'm not too sure of its effectiveness.
