I loved Grodd when he was in the SECRET SOCIETY OF SUPER-VILLAINS title. He was one mean, manipulative monkey! It irritated me that he wasn't included among Luthor, Talia, Calculator, Black Adam, etc. when the Secret Society made a comeback. I think he may have even been shown to be just another villain following their leadership--and no way should he ever, ever be shown as a follower.

Grodd would eat your brain if he heard you call him a "monkey". King Grodd is an APE (like you and me)!

I agree with Gorilla Grodd never being a follower. He was always a character that was a victim of inconsistencies. Next minute, he's tanking hits from Flash, next he's getting trashed by Batman.

We are the Dora Milaje. We are the daughters of the 18 tribes of Wakanda. We are the teeth of the Panther God. Out of 10,000 years of sweat and bloodshed and battle are we born. We are the women of this ancient land. Deadliest of the species. And our time has come!

So in the New 52 does Grodd have super speed like The Flash?

One problem I have with modern versions of Gorilla Grodd is the over-emphasis on his physical prowess. The character was interesting because he was intelligent, not because he was tearing people's limbs off in unnecessarily graphic detail.

I think it's an interesting dichotomy. Grodd is always proclaiming that he is so much more evolved and advanced than the lowly humans but he acts more savage than a typical jungle creature.

That wouldn't be a problem if he wasn't always being shown dismembering people in gory detail. I don't want to see any of that.

I couldn't agree more! As much as I enjoy Grodd in battle, his intelligence should always be the focus. IMO the trend in recent years has just been to show how he can rip off heads, eat brains, be angry, etc. These actions would have better impact if they were few and far between--when he's been pushed "too far."
