Im amazed by people that can draw that much detail of a costume.
Also doomsday may be under slightly complicated. He has those spikes and there might be variation on where other artists put them along with the length of them.

Jack of Hearts doesn't even look happy about his costume's level of complexity.

If you just take off the silver bits and darken the red up a shade or two it really is a pretty decent look.

In my opinion, a good costume should be simple and pratictal, especially in regards of the type of activities a character is involved in.
I absolutely abhorre costumes that serves only to (hyper)sexualize characters, it's exploitive.

Elektra costume makes absolutely no sense in that regard for example.

Oh, Elektra was just one example I chose among many possible others, you are right to highlight that !

And in my opinion you are beting safe.

The Mockingbird costume above is an example of how I think updating certain costumes can be a good thing. While I never say covering up more skin and adding "practical" elements to a costume is something I look forward to, IMO...the above costume is just downright ugly.

However, the re-design took, IMO, the parts of her costume that give her an identity and made it look better. Yeah, there are once again "practical" parts added on, but I think it looks amazing:

I like it. It took the functional feel of the original Huntress outfit and combined it with a little of the flair of the Mockingbird costume, but not TOO much.

For the non superpowered sect it makes perfect sense to update their look alot. With the advances in body armour and new materials it is foolish for people like Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Green Arrow, Daredevil, and even Batman to not have looks that reflect the changes in modern technology. Really any character that does not have some form of power and realies more on skills and tactics should be sporting new looks to some extent.

I like the silver bits, but they should be black. I mostly meant this is a very functional suit

My Top Ten favorite costumes are:

Reuben Flagg and the Plexus Rangers from American Flagg! (the perfect blend of patriotic superhero, dashing retro adventurer, and police/military uniform)
    The Rocketeer
    Grendel (Hunter Rose)
    Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)
Booster Gold (his pre-Nu52 costume, with or without the collar)
Sandman (Wesley Dodds in his Sandman Mystery Theatre look -- three-piece suit, trench coat, fedora, and full gas mask; not the green suit, purple cape, and flat mask)
    Spider-Man (big eyes, please)
Catwoman (her Darwyn Cooke-redesigned black catsuit with the large goggles and chunky boots with buckles)
Flash (either classic Barry or Wally's shiny, darker red suit with the pointed belt and gold instead of yellow)
Nightwing (his 2000s black and blue costume)

It depends on the character and their context. I like the Wesley Dodds Sandman in his noir look
    159910-180568-wesley-dodds.JPG477.jpg
better than the yellow and purple monstrosity he wore when they wanted him to be more superhero-ish
    342642-5475-wesley-dodds.jpg
Granted he wore that during WWII, I still think the gas mask looks more WWII style. I remember on the old forum there was a guy who just wouldn't hear it and wanted to know why DC never used the yellow suit in flashbacks. (I didn't know how else to explain it other than "it's ugly")

Jack Kirby's least interesting contribution to comics.

Sometimes there are changes to perfectly fine costumes that are just hellish for example
