The real question is what in hell was Marvel thinking? I mean, nobody has actually read some of the dude comics before hiring him?
He draws porn comics for god's sake.

I'm sure Milo's been paid for any work he's already turned in. And the article states that Marvel said they'd still work with him. Manara's not being hurt by this.
Didn't DC Comics have an online fiasco about a Teen Titans cover? By Rocafort...was the cover scrapped and was he fired as well?
Indeed. It actually has gone pretty far if i remember correctly.
I... I honestly don't care. Not one bit.
Besides, it wasn't like we lost anything that looked good. I mean, ignoring any comment about sexism and sexualization, that cover was just bad because of poor anatomy and was just damn boring looking. Seriously, look at that cover.... it's so lifeless. It's not like even an action or dynamic pose... it's just her crawling. Not even crawling up the side of a building, where we can get a neat angle... just her crawling over a ledge and shoving her ass out.
BINGO. What was even the point hiring this artist?
Well its because its rare that men are drawn in such a way that's meant to be "sexy". Sure, they may have questionable physiques, but are they often drawn in a way that's suppose to be procative or be arousing? Not really. Also, if their costumes are skintight, then I'm severely worried about the guys since they seem to be missing a bugle (are they all Ken dolls?).
Opinions may vary in quality.
My big article on Mariko Tamaki's Hulk & She-Hulk runs, discussing the good, bad, and its creation.
My second big article on She-Hulk, discussing Jason Aaron's focus on her in Avengers #20.
According to an anatomy program, her anatomy was on point. Whether it was nice to look at or not remains subjective.
I must've missed the article about that cover, but daggum Red Robin is huge! Each individual piece isn't bad, just bad within the context of that picture. Art is pretty standard superhero art.
On a side note is that the new design for Raven? It makes me sad.
I'm not sure about the uproar over the Spider-Woman cover. There have been much worse that are the traditional covers than this VARIANT. Ed Benes is still one of the most gratuitous artists I've seen. Does uproar follow his work? (I'm not being sarcastic, I'm actually asking I don't always do a good job of following who hates who)
We will always have X-Women. How the Eisners got it so wrong i will never know.
Maybe Avatar or Dynamite can hire him? Is Playboy still publishing?
I regret to inform you that they're not trying to change the way the industry views female characters, otherwise they wouldn't employ Greg Land to this book, or any of their books. He and his work is far more offensive than anything Manara has submitted for this project.
I wonder if what is currently going on in the NFL had anything to do with this? With sexism, domestic violence, and women's rights such hot topics right now.
I live in Italy and I can tell you for a fact most of the general public doesn't even know who Manara is since his stuff is published in expensive graphic novel formats (or better, republished, as he's old and has published nothing new in quite some time). Among those who know of him he's considered a great erotic artist. I know he had quite the success in France years ago when he published "Il gioco" (the game), but I don't think his international renown could be considered great. He's known in certain circles, that's all.
Edit: as for your assumption anyone here would call Manara "schifoso" you should know that adjective basically means "disgusting" but usually in relation with food or unsavory things or situations. Saying of somneone "è uno schifoso" has pretty heavy implications, and among those who know of Manara very few would probably call him that as he's a well respected artist in his line of work

Fired? Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Axel Alonso is quoted in the article, saying that: "[W]e'll do more Manara variants".
And as for "censorship", it's Marvel who pulled it. Not those who criticized it. Nothing stranger than 2000AD (a British comic anthology featuring Judge Dredd. Read it if you want hardcore stories.) "censoring" a Judge Dredd Megazine drawn by Frank Miller http://viciousimagery.blogspot.se/20...edd-cover.html
While I -personally- don't think neither Manara or Miller's covers would'v halted sales of either book, the editors apparently saw things differently. No shame in that, since they want to sell their product. Which happens to be great reads.
