Marvel was wrong, fans informed them that they were wrong, Marvel then realized their wrongness, and then they did something positive about it. It's a good thing for them and for the fans.

It's not a matter of 'if you don't like it, don't buy it'. By publishing a sexist cover like that, no matter who buys it, Marvel is sending a particular message. They realized that isn't the message they want to send, so they corrected themselves. No one has taken anything away from anyone.

Manara is still able to draw his porn if you want to buy it; Manara will still be able to produce non-porn covers for Marvel if you want to buy those. This particular cover crossed the line in its sexist depiction of women, enabling Marvel to learn where the line is.
...actually, this particular cover is still going to arrive as promised.

It's two other covers - that have likely merely been rescheduled for future issues - that have been bumped.

Jessica's Manara portrait will still be available for purchase (although, likely insanely expensive after all this hype).

Dang! I misunderstood. Thanks for the info. I guess they didn't learn much.

I think Scarlet Witch fans may not be satisfied with the way Wanda is being drawn.

!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously-- storm's eye (iris) color is a dealbreaker here?

(side note)-- no Internet outrage from the general public on Ororo's cleavage? I personally don't mind, but why does the very caucasian Spider-woman get to be the 'character-victim' in this saga?

It's not surprising. Again America has a very socially conservative viewpoint towards sexuality, as remarks given to music videos such as Booty be Jennifer Lopez, Anaconda by Nikki Minaj, Beyonce, and Miley Cyrus further illustrate. Unlike the music industry, which is doing rather well and such can break new grounds in America regarding sexuality, Comic Books needs all the help it can get in terms of sales. As such, Marvel needs to reach the socially conservative viewpoint of sexuality here in America. It's like if Marvel releases a comic within certain places of the middle east. the comic would have to adjust to middle eastern societal viewpoints in order for it to be successful.

I remember coming across a photo on deviant art regarding a photographer who clearly explores sexuality with the female body, and while the photo was very popular, a few individuals did come trying to tear down the photo due to it's sexual nature. Fortunately deviant art is not a company trying to reach sales, but instead a place that allows people to explore art.

Maybe if comics reach a stable sales rate, then perhaps you could see the return of Manara as they would have the sales capability to be able to tread new ground, but as of now, they need all the sales they can get and fitting the socially conservative viewpoint here in america is going to be a requirement to reach new sales.

How did she get her belly button to suck in her bathing suit?

I think there would be just as many objections (possibly more?) if it were Storm in Jess's pose on the cover of her own solo. Ororo's pose isn't particularly sexualised. Yes she's wearing body paint masquerading as a costume, but that's pretty standard. It's not really got anything to do with her colour.

Nobody particularly objected to his portrayal of Wasp either. Some of Manara's work is ok, and some is not. I'm not particularly a fan of his, but that's because I find his depictions don't have any real personality other than sexual.

I feel like breast-cleavage, and breasts in general, are just not as taboo as someone's butt-crack practically being shown. I mean, really, breasts are just not that big of a deal unless they're GIANT or really badly drawn.

As for her belly button...I have no idea.

Is it because some shops have already placed orders?

And do variants even sell that well to begin with?
I imagine he's under some contract or something. And the guy is a well-known artist, so I imagine no one wants to sour their relationship with them. Personally, I appreciate Manara's porn and his art. The man isn't trying to be something he's not, and the porn is pretty good.

It's not that I'm mad that a renowned artist of porn drew a pornographic picture. I'm mad that Marvel hired him to begin with.

Wait, is that what his non-porn work looks like? No wonder he sticks with women. His men look horrifying.

I wasn't getting those variants, as I never bother with variants, but now I'll make a point not to buy these comics at all.

I kind of doubt that it's due to the Spider-Woman cover controversy. Because that thing's going on sale still. So it'd be weird to cancel covers from a creator due to a controversy on an upcoming cover and then still release the controversial upcoming cover.

I'm not sure why people are calling this censorship. The government didn't make anyone do anything.
