Getting the feeling Abrams is running out of ideas with NuTrek since he's going to rely on bringing folks from Original Trek in the film
Kirk should just show up at the end to bring old Spock home.
So now what? Kirk-Prime gets resurrected via time-warp/wormhole/temporal rift/causality/etc., he shows up to rescue the Nu-Enterprise crew from some nutty calamity; in the meanwhile, he manages to "romance" quite a number of female folks, and maybe by the epilogue of the film, a female crew member is pregnant with his baby?
They opened the door for this the minute they decided keeping Nimoy's Spock around. This entire series is really just one fan circle jerk. They wanted to be their own thing but not piss off the TOS fans so they kept the old universe as an existing thing, and now they want to reference everything. I liked the first one, the second kind of sucked and it's because of too much trying to have your cake and eat it to.
That said getting Shatner and Nimoy together one more time might be worth it. Especially since it's been so long, seriously there are people that just graduated college this year who have never had this happen in their lifetime. 23 years. And sadly it might very well be the last chance Trek fans get at this. So I can't be too picky about this.
I see your point but this is just going to even further not make the NuTrek Universe stand out on it's own if they have to constantly rely on characters from Original Trek. Cause people are going to care more about an Old Kirk and Old Spock reunion than the NuTrek cast based on reasons you've already stated.
Ditch the new cast , just have old kirk and spock , add sulu and focus on them but before that , old kirk needs to use his moves on new uhuru.
What's sad about all of this is that Orci had some pretty cool ideas about the future of TNG (that have been explored in some of the comics) and could have probably made a good Next Next Generation Star Trek movie at least in the conceptual level.
Hell no, we don't need that arrogant blowhard. Nimoy was not needed in Darkness.
