Default "You can judge a book by it's cover". Current/ongoing cover collectors.

Not sure if there's any interest in this, however... i'm going to give it a go and see what comes of it.
[I don't see any other section where this would fit since it deals with every ongoing comic]

So... what's the mission statement here/The purpose?

Basically, for people interested in purchasing Comics for the month based in large part on the cover, to share with others their favorite covers that they're purchasing for the month, that in doing so... it will help others see it from various perspectives, if a number of people liked a certain cover for example, that might allow someone to see it from a perspective they didn't the first time around and they might see reason to purchase it where they didn't previously. Or, they might not have time to look through everything that month and could see some of these cover choices. So... a helping/sharing resource.

    The guidelines:
    Entirely based around http://www.dcbservice.com.

Focusing only the months that's available for purchase at DCB [so, two months in advance, ie, October would be orders for December for example]. Please try to keep it to covers that you're actually purchasing for the month.

Based around a casual mindset, preferring to keep it around a $15 limit for each cover, i know the more serious collectors would be picking up the very expensive variants, etc but not many people can afford to go for those expensive covers.

Limiting it to a favorite 10 [expanded from six], as to not overwhelm and complicate things.

Since CBR doesn't handle embedded images very well... it's probably better just to link to the covers rather than embed them.

    I'll start things off,

[Tip: DCBS shows the solicit numbers on their site, you can just search for those numbers on Google and it should take you to the previewsworld page. For example, SEP141005 with the Archie cover]

Here are my picks for this month 2014/09: #1 is my favorite of the month, then descending...

    1. New Vampirella #6 Variant by Jenny Frison
    http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/...emID=STK655421

    2. Catwoman #36 by Jae Lee
    http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/...emID=SEP140266

    3. Harley Quinn #12 by Amanda Conner
    http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/...emID=SEP140268

    4. Captain Midnight #17 by Javier Mena, Dustin Nguyen
    http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/...emID=SEP140043

    5. Sonic the Hedgehog #267 Holiday Havoc Variant by Jennifer Hernandez
    http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/...emID=SEP141018

    6. Archie #662 Chestnuts Roasting Variant by Genevieve Ft
    http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/...emID=SEP141005

By the way, next month's going to be insanely difficult to choose with those Cooke variants in play... but it won't come onto DCBS site until about a week into the next month or so. [It's usually around 4-5 days into it i think]

This is a pretty cool idea. I've recently started framing some covers as decorations in my man cave. I don't regularly visit a comic shop so it would be cool to see whats out there.

That's the basic idea... to share, explore and discover.

This month's a bit behind to where people might have already put their orders in and stuff and so i'm not sure how interested people will be... but we'll see how next month goes when people are putting in their new orders for December and checking out all of the new Comics to buy, etc.

Above post, that's not this month's Red Sonja Frison as it's based around DCBS and two months advance [this month, September would actually be for November and then next month October would actually be for December, etc], the Red Sonja by Frison would be...
    http://www.previewsworld.com/Home/1/...emID=SEP141335

However, it's cool... no worries hehe... i bought that second Jenny Frison cover linked there... that was my toughest decision this month, i kept staring at it unsure to buy it or not, but eventually did.

Okay, maybe mention you meant the advance preorder listings rather than the current months releases then. ;P

Is the idea that we're actually buying the comic based on the cover? Or just that we think the covers look good? There's lot's of comics that have good covers, but when I get to the store and thumb thru them, I end up putting them back.

I did, in the guidelines of the original post it says that it's based entirely on DCBS, and focusing only on the months that's available for purchase on DCBS... and my picks were all from November. Either way, no worries. I'm just happy someone shared haha.

Yeah, as cover collectors it would be buying the Comic pretty much based entirely on the cover art itself... the more you get into it the more you start to become familiar with certain cover Artists, like Jenny Frison for example, and it's also a thing with having a particular Artist's cover as well.. not much different then buying a painting or art print.

Each person has their own reasons for this, i suppose... For me, i use DCBS to put in monthly orders on singles with about half of them purchased for the cover art, and the other half to read... and the rest of the stuff i buy is from trades/hardcovers of stuff that i'm really into. A big reason for basing it on the cover is that certain titles i wouldn't buy in trade or read seriously, like i just wouldn't read Captain Midnight for example... however, because of cover collecting and really liking the cover i end up buying an issue of it, so... there's that exploration and discovering of stuff you might not check out, and i could end up really liking something that i wouldn't have tried. I also display some of the cover art in various ways, etc... it's not for everyone. It's just something i started doing and found that i enjoy doing, each month going through and discovering the various covers i like, and getting to try out a bunch of new titles... stuff that i might not ever check out otherwise, not knowing if i'll love it or hate it... there's that adventurous, exploration aspect to it in which i find kind of exciting.
[And even if you don't end up liking the book, at least you have the cover that you really liked]

Not to mention sentimental reasons, when i was kid that's how i picked my Comics... and i found some pretty darn good Comics that way... i picked up a Spawn #1 off of a drugstore spindle rack based on the cover art back in the day. :P

Just a heads up, looks like the new month is activated on DCBS today... October orders for December.

I'm going to go through and put in my orders soon, i think the limit of a top 6 covers for the month might be a little too low and so i think going with a top 10 expansion might be better. [However, it can be anything up to 10]

If anyone wants to contribute their favorite covers of the month that they're purchasing in their monthly order, go for it and thanks for contributing and sharing if so.

Alright, got my picks in... this was the toughest month yet to decide between them all and make picks, i don't envy anyone else who attempts it. [Started at $350 worth of comics and had to narrow it down $100 and 10 picks out of it ]

Darwyn Cooke owned this month, could've easily had all Cooke covers for the top 10... which, i did buy most of the Cooke covers but i didn't want to pick only those as that would be boring, and i do really like the ones i picked.

The top spot for the month goes to Darwyn Cooke, obvs.

    1. Detective Comics #37 Variant by Darwyn Cooke

    3. Justice League 3000 #12 by Howard Porter

    4. He Man the Eternity War #1 Main by Stjepan Sejic / Variant by Darwyn Cooke [Cheated a little bit but i did buy both ]
