Because drama.

It's a horrible conceit in my mind. That Thor is aware of his crime or whatever it was should not spontaneously impact his worthiness. The Mjolnir spell has consistently been ascribed to one's character.

Freyja looks rather different in that preview than she's looked in other books. Also, Odin seemed perfectly ok with Loki at the end of the Tenth Realm mini, so him insinuating that Loki might be behind this seems like a contradiction.

What the hell does that mean?

I think s/he means that while Thor will be female, the character being female won't be the driving force of this story being told. But more so why she is worthy.
