It exists. But it only has two roles: invent the next big event, and court writing/artistic talent. That's it, that's all. Editors don't give a damn about even the semblance of continuity anymore.

It's standard Brevoort editing. Just say 'yes' to every idea the writer has, and then go on your tumblr and tell the people who complain to stop reading comics.

What if the writer's idea was, "Kill off the Avengers and force other superheroes to step in and defend the world in their stead, with the X-Men being able to retake prominence in the larger MU"? Would Brevoort say "yes" to that, too?

Marvel doesn't hire writers who have those kind of thoughts.

Yes, and then the next issue would begin with the Avengers alive without explanation, because another writer pitched an idea that took their being alive as a given.

Sam is Cao isn't shoehorned, it's natural story development. Especially since Sam is one of Steve's best friends.

And yet they're perfectly fine with killing off/warping their big 6 beyond recognition. It can't be just coincidence that around the same time Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Cap, Thor and Hulk went through these changes. Strange no?

Spider-Man's change is already over. Iron Man's hasn't happened yet.

The next revelation is that all this time Peter Parker is actually a Skrull.

Maybe but having just ended in April and lasting over a year, it still fits. And Iron Man's happens next month.

Yeah they're fine with doing whatever to their core characters, but they won't ever put the X-Men in a position of prominence over the Avengers.

More like Aaron's, Remender's and Hickman's respective assistant editors cant bother to let the other what's going on and how stuff will affect each other's books.
