    Nope.
If you are talking about Animated DCU Hawkgirl, she was played by Cuban American Maria Canals. But other than behind the scenes and a slight inflection in her voice, it did not form part of the characters identity.

As for Kendra Saunders, as others pointed out was something that might have been mentioned only once, did her mother even get a name? Not sure that the character ever identified as that?

New52 Earth2 Hawgirl, I don't know anything about this character yet, or how they are playing it?
I always thought it would be cool and would make the most sense if they made a modern Hawgirl Egyptian.

Q: What was the first DC book with an Asian lead?
    Female?
    Male?

What was the first DC book with a Latino lead?
    Female?
Male? I believe it was El Diablo (Sandoval)

If not first, just list the one you know?

I believe The All-New Atom featuring Ryan Choi was the first Asian male lead. I'm not sure there's been an Asian female lead. Ever.

Wow, if true 2006? that's kind of sad.

Could the first female Asian lead be new 52 Katana? 2013.
Did Dr. Light Kimiyo Hoshi ever have a solo or mini?
    Or anyone before her?

No, but she had a solo story in Showcase '96 #9.

I'm probably the biggest fan of hers. If you're interested, I've written a fanfic series starring the character:

I have no idea if she was the first, but she probably was the most successful. (Her book ran 60 issues, was cancelled for motives other than sales, and people whine about her to this day).

About latinas, I have no idea. Fire was heavily featured and one of the lead characters ion Giffen's JL, but she's not "exactly'" latina as americans use to categorize. (Meaning that she's not hispanic or comes from a hispanic country).

There's also Renee Montoya, who could be considered a lead in Gotham Central, I guess.

    But both are ensemble books.

Kimyo Hoshi - Dr. Light, is one of my all-time favorite DC characters, who also happens to be Asian. I wish they bring back this bitchy super-heroine, even if they had to change her name, soo that there could be a villanous Dr. Light haanging around the DCU. The Doctor part is essential, after all it's what she is. Smart. A PHD. Prism also gives the idea of someone whose powers is lightbased. So I'd be fimne with her being called Dr. Prism, as long as the arrogant and bitchy personality stuck.

    Peace
DC already has a character named Prism.

I advocate her fighting to improve the standing of the name, rather than giving it up. Doing that fits with her stubborn nature.

What was the reason if it wasn't sales?

I know she turned out to be evil but Rhonda Pineda (Atomica), should get a second chance at life. Give her a good counterpart on Earth Prime and make her the Atom again. Ultraman is just an evil Clark Kent, Superwoman is an evil Lois Lane and Power Ring is a evil Hal Jordan; so there is a precedent set already.

In the old now wiped boards, I also suggested they turn the Atoms into a team book.
The first arc being Ray and Ryan teaming up to find exactly what you suggest, the "good" Rhonda Pineda. Who by all logic should exist in their universe.
Maybe unable to control her power, have her trapped in a tiny gravity mass singularity/black hole, or whatever the physics for it would be.
And have them go on a Fantastic Voyage adventure through the microverse to find her.
Ending in the formation of the Team!

A team that fits nicely into the topic of this thread.
