While i think it's time for Robert to retire from the role of Iron Man and have a re-cast of Tony Stark,i would love seeing Gibson directing a Marvel film. The guy has a talent in directing.

Marvel isn't giving anything to Charlie Sheen though. Marvel wasn't a billion dollar subsidy of Disney when they cast RDJ so it was all a gamble then.

Gibson has undeniable talent. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Why would you want Stark to be recast? Downy is Stark and IMO is not replaceable. They can have a new Iron-Man, but to recast Tony would be horrible.

No one is irreplaceable. For example, the actor who did Howard Stark in First Captain America could be a perfect Tony Stark(his look and mannerism could feet classic silver age Tony Stark). Many said that Connery was the only Bond but we have tons of movies post-Connery and many of them quite successful.Downy is not the end of all Tony Stark.

And the Bond franchise was never as consistent as it was during Connery's peak both critically and financially and it took nearly 45 years for a film to eventually touch the success of Connery's best film. To the point where Connery is almost always regarded as the best and every actor whose ever touched the role has in some way modeled him after Connery's portrayal.

Robert Downey Jr. is those movies, he’s the selling point of those movie, they aren't going to be as big without him. They may as well take a break from Iron Man (or Tony Stark) if that's what they're going to do.

The Iron Man movies are also in a weirder place then James Bond. They can't bring in some guy to do what Robert Downey Jr. was doing, people will just see it as a Robert Downey Jr. impression; and Marvel isn't going to change the whole tone of the universe so that it feels like a new thing like James Bond movies did. Hell, they brought Connery back after he left.

Connery was the first and he helped visualising Bond to the public, although the literal 007 was closer to Dalton or Craig's portrayal.Still,Bond franchise endured even after Connery.I can see Tony Stark and Iron Man continuing after RDJ.

I can, but if you want a similar situation, Connery's biggest Bond film is Thunderball, which adjusted for inflation is over a billion. Iron Man 3, which is Downey's biggest is over a billion. I doubt you see that success with a recast for a long time.

He directed the great Apocalypto, Braveheart, Passion of the Christ, and The Man Without a Face.

And when you take those movies together, that's one heck of an impressive resume, no matter who you are. For a guy who's directed such a short list of movies, each one's been great imo.

He won the Oscar for it as well.

I'd love to see him try and tackle it, maybe even try and do a new trilogy that replaces RDJ
