Good see the DP again, Perry, Jimmy, now only missing Lois.
the art is a little inconsistent, but it's very clean. this can be a great start
The first thing I noticed. Surprised it took 7 replies to post it, haha. Could be an Easter Egg like Sacred Knight said, but it looks like it's following actual storyline and was done purposely to get us either talkin' or give Pre52 fans something to smile about. Interesting indeed.

I really doubt its of significance to the story or overall lore. Superman's wearing the standard New 52 costume in the book, so it really does nothing for fans of the old costume to allude that he wore trunks at one time in the past if they're never going to concretely see it outside a tiny newspaper headline anyway. More likely to me its just a subtle nod to the past.
Only way I could see it fitting into the story would be to say he wore a suit with trunks that was a regenerating suit, taking the place of the black and silver suit from Reign, heh. Because he's wearing the regular New 52 suit in the "Superman is Dead" headline, so it wouldn't fit a progression of t-shirt and jeans/suit with trunks/New 52 suit. Rather its jammed in the middle there, so it could only be some sort of temporary look for a specific reason. But I still lean toward just an easter egg.

Ugh, why are there trunks in that picture? I'm sure it's a Geoff Johns thing...
The art is so cool, I hate that Johns is writing this or else I'd be all over it.
Titano! I suppose it's safe to assume that this is different to the one that showed up earlier in the nu52? Sure seems like it.
I was a bit iffy about Johns taking over before, but consider me sold. That preview reads really well.
And the art. So distinctive and beautiful.
But are you the only metal that's liquid at room temperature?
No, but his explanation certainly makes a lot more sense than chalking it up to a mistake. Its too detailed to be a coloring mistake. Its even got the old belt. It was a deliberate move by artist and colorist. A more compelling sign of a coloring error would be if you could see that the pencils were the New 52 belt. But that's clearly not the case.
No, did you get it from them saying it was a mistake?
Like I said, there is nothing wrong with sneaking it in for fun. Not everyone agrees that the suit should have been changed to begin with especially those in the business who still work for DC and I know that for a fact.
