COMPLETELY agree. Barbara Gordon is a role model and, yes, a human being. However, these actions do not reflect the characterization she had prior to New 52 nor after the reboot.

I love the costume and the cover, but the artwork makes her appear younger (hence the thief referring to the younger image) and I really don't think that is necessary. The status quo change is fine and I hope they keep Alysia around.



On the topic of making out and getting drunk as being superficial. We do not have enough information to discern how the writer is portraying her full character, but there are concerns.

Making out and getting drunk on a first date is not superficial. Superficial would be if she lack depth and substance. Clearly, she does display depth that goes beyond her image.

In real life, there are plenty of people who meet, get drunk, and are able to have strong, healthy, lasting relationships. Actions do not matter as much as the people involved. I do not drink at all and neither does my fiance. But as long as consent and respect are illustrated then I am fine with whatever they do with Babs. It may not all be stories I want to see her go through, but at least they are not making her treat intimacy lightly.

Yeah Batgirl's suppose to be a FEMALE ROLE MODEL for DC Comics to approach young female fans and the company pulls a stunt like THIS....

DC is obviously trying to put out a relatable character that doesn't talk down to her audience. There will always be a subset of fandom who gets bent out of shape when a female character isn't some paragon of virtue, and they'll wish she was paralyzed rather than see her enjoy herself at a party full of people her own age.

So showing a 20-something year old doing what A LOT of 20-something years olds of BOTH genders do from time to time is "setting a bad example for young girls?" Really, because I'd argue that it's essentially showing them that this kind of thing CAN happen and to just be careful about it. And as others have said, if this were Dick, or Tim, or even Jason, then I GUARANTEE you that there wouldn't be a completely separate thread discussing one panel of them making out with a girl. There sure wasn't one of Dick sleeping with that female agent in the most recent issue of his book, or Jason making out with that Isabel character in RHATO, or Bruce and the Russian lady, etc. Oh and they kissed, that's it. They didn't have sex, the kissed. It doesn't make her "promiscuous" or "trashy" or any of the other monikers that you'd like to use, and frankly it's kind of offensive that anyone would even suggest such a thing.
