I know Zatanna was basically voted into the League by the readers (and a great choice, too).

But do you think her admission was also a way to eliminate the need for what the Phantom Stranger brought to the book. Gerry Conway was kind of criticized for using Zatanna way too much, especially at the expense of Aquaman, Atom, and Hawkgirl. And the way he used her, she became arguably the strongest member on the team (remember, Superman was powerless against magic back in those days). He eventually reduced her power significantly.

You probably are right on that one with Conway preferring Zee over the Stranger and phasing the latter out. He also made her JLA chairperson quite quickly - though I didn't mind as I loved her to bits.

Yes, it was very sweet and I liked their chemistry together. I also remember there was a slight controversy with Zatanna's new costume because New Teen Titans #4 came out before this issue and she was already wearing the new costume (it was designed by George Perez).

It was probably more to do with her undeniable hotness to get more teens like me to purchase Justice League of America.

I liked all her costumes except the 90s one below. The ponytail look was my first opportunity to learn who she was. Each look did seem to represent the decade/time period she was in.
