They still call him that periodically, if not a lot.

    Fans probably use it more.

I don't think they do actually. One of my pet peeves of modern comics is that they would be calling each other Clark or Bruce or Barry...

In days with long range microphones, spies, shapeshifters and satelites and who knows what else... there is WAY too much referring to each other by their 'real' names. Especially with Batman in the room. He knows all too well that anyone could be listening at any time. You want to call Superman, Kal? That's fine, but nobody should be calling him Clark unless he's wearing the Glasses. Same with Batman. When they're in the manor or on the street... Bruce is fine. When the cowl is on though? Doesn't matter if he's in the car, the cave or on a rooftop... He's Batman. End of story.

Could it be a coincidence that the three heroes with Superman in this story were the three main characters killed in Crisis..?

Actually, I'd go as far as sticking with the Earh 1 JLA and simply not have COIE. If we kept most of the status quos around the time of COIE, we could have a line-up such as this:

Justice League of America – When Aquaman leaves the League to try to rekindle his relationship with Mera, Batman steps in and, after getting rid of the children, recruits new members to turn the League once again into the World’s Greatest Heroes.

    • Batman – After quitting the Outsiders, Batman goes back to the League, takes over its leadership and re-forges it into a force to be reckoned with.
    • J’onn J’onzz – Deputy leader, one of the team’s powerhouses and, alongside Captain Comet, its most scientifically inclined member.
    • Flash - Wally West, convinced by the Batman to take up the mantle when Barry Allen stays in the future.
    • Vixen – The only new addition of the Detroit League that Batman saw fit to continue in the team.
    • Green Lantern – John Stewart. Hal Jordan never rejoins the corps, however is still considered by John his replacement in case of an emergency.
    • Zatanna – The Mistress of Magic.
    • Supergirl – When Superman proves unavailable, Batman is quick to recruit his cousin as a replacement for the position of the League’s heaviest hitter.
    • Elongated Man – Longstanding member.
    • Firestorm – Happily rejoins the League when Batman goes back to recruiting. The League even helps to cure Prof Stein from his bout with cancer.
    • Captain Comet – The most significant addition to the new League, not only in terms of raw power, but CC also brings with him a new Headquarters in an abandoned SSSV citadel in SF, and the incredible amount of scientific knowledge that he accumulated during his years traveling in space.

    Reserves –

    • Superman – Too busy to commit full-time.
    • Wonder Woman – Goes back to Paradise Island, and rarely leaves it anymore. Still deals a lot with the gods, though.
    • Green Arrow – Prefers to face sterret-crime and social injustice rather than the threats the League usually faces.
    • Black Canary – Sticks with Ollie.
    • Hawkman and Hawkwoman – Take to the stars.
    • Atom – Atom, the Mini-Barbarian.
    • Aquaman and Mera - King and Queen. Rule Atlantis.

As a plus, we could have the expeled teens form another team:

Crusaders of Justice – Resenting their exclusion from the Justice League, Steel, Vibe, and Gypsy join with other teen heroes to form their own team, based in Detroit, at the factory HQ provided by Steel’s grandfather, who tries to micro-manage the team at every turn.

    • Golden Eagle – Co-leader alongside Steel.
    • Steel – Co-leader alongside Golden Eagle. Also brings in financing.
    • Vibe – Paco Ramon.
    • Gypsy – Cindy Reynolds.
    • Bat-Girl – Bette Kane.
    • Magenta – Francis Kane.

And of course, Batman leaving the Outsiders would have its consequences:

Bat-Woman and the Outsiders – After Batman leaves the original Outsiders, Looker is killed in battle. Considering this a wake-up call, Katana and Halo leave the team and decide to try to lead normal lives. Geo-Force returns to Markovia, after an assassination attempt leaves his brother temporarily unable to rule.

    • Bat-Woman – Assembles the new team, recruiting old and new members alike, to deal with the kind of crimes that the League and the Titans do not touch. Barbara Gordon is an accomplished athlete and a genius with computers.
    • Black Lightning – Second in command and field leader. Jefferson Pierce is a veteran and experienced super-hero, who is also an Olympic level athlete and a human dynamo.
    • Atomic Knight – With his scientific background and an almost invincible high-tech armor, Gardner Grayle represents an amazing asset for the new team.
    • Metamorpho – Rex Mason, the Element Man, is one of the most powerful meta-humans in the planet.
    • Windfall – Recruited by Bat-Woman to offer an outlaw perspective to the team in exchange for protection against her sister and her Masters of Disaster.
    • Shade, the Changing Man – With his M-Vest and its reality distorting and gravity defying proprieties, Rac Shade offers his services to the Outsiders in exchange for their help in capturing escaped criminal from the Meta dimension on Earth.
    • Firehawk – In the Outsiders, Lorraine Reilley expects to gain the necessary experience in wielding her atomic powers and also use them to help make a difference in the world.
    • Blue Devil – Daniel Cassidy brings to the team heavy muscle and an uncanny perspective in dealing with mystical threats.

The New Titans wouldn't be much affected by all this. I'd actually step up some of their future storylines.

The Titans – Continue operating out of Titans Tower. Team changes a little bit, but continues to feel like a family. Dick and Kory split up. Donns loses husband and son in car crash.

    • Nightwing – Dick Grayson. Leader.
    • Troia – Donna Troy, the Titan Seed.
    • Starfire – Kory Anders. Becames harder and harder to reign in after she and Dick split up.
    • Cyborg – Vic Stone.
    • Changeling – Gar Logan.
    • Kole – Kole Weathers. Sticks with the team after Jericho is killed. Develops feelings for Red Star.
    • Arsenal – Roy Harper.
    • Red Star – Leonid Kovar. Becomes a key player in the team, not only due to his power, that rivals Troia's, but by his developing strong friendships in the group, becoming a frequent lab partner to Vic, replacing Wally as Dick's confident and maybe becomming something else to Kole.

    This was fun.

I think he was a member in Kingdom Come, but never in modern day that I recall. I seem to remember he turned down an offer to join during the Silver or Bronze Age.

Captain Comet was given honorary member status during his Secret Society of Super-Villains run. He was always hanging around with the League in that mag and in various specials, many written by Conway, who was then writing the Justice League of America book, though, that I recall, his single appearence in the League's book during that time was a cameo in the Atom's wedding.

Adam Strange was more recognized as honorary member of the Satellite League.

Although instead of just adding more diversity Vixen, Lightning, Kimiyo, a non cliche Latino, and more, which would have been great!, and what the growing League needed.
That whole post reads a bit more like the needless tinkering let's fix what's not broken mentality, by editors or creators who don"t actually enjoy the League, or just out of ideas how to write and develop them, yet also can't come up with an actual new team idea, so instead they just randomly tinker swap out random characters, and tell themselves it's fixing, that lead to the degradation of the most iconic League to begin with. LOL!

Aside from some of the membership choices in the Outsiders ( I'd keep Blue Devil, Shade and Metamorpho and add The Creeper, Black Orchid, and maybe somebody else. Make it a crazy weird book like Morrison's Doom Patrol and I'd bump Black Lightning to the JLA), I would read the Hel outta that.
    Awesome post.

    Nice.
    Pretty close to mine.

However, for leadership, I'd have Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman as co-leaders, with Superman and then Wonder Woman being top leader if more than one is present.
And as the stories would be more in line with pre-Crisis league (with a random assortment of members each story), the leadership per story would default to the member with senority if none of the Trinity are around.

And this was my 'Outsiders', that would really serve as a temporary 'West Coast' JLA before being absorbed into the JLA after their mini-series.

But if the mini proved popular, a 2nd series would get launched and the team would consist of...

And Power Girl. I forgot to add her to the image.

I'll be honest, The thing I love best about the Satellite era was the team members. Any project that wants to bring back THAT team, I'm all about.

However, any project that wants to add members and switch members and throw a bunch of c-list characters up there... then that isn't satellite anymore that's a whole new incarnation. In fact if I'm completely honest, I always thought the team was a little TOO big at this point. Once you hit the 12-15 members... then people get lost in the shuffle or end up standing around in the background. So I wouldn't add anyone... except Robin. He really SHOULD be a member, Junior Member, Reserve trainee... whatever. When Batman joins the team, Robin should be there too.

For me, the ideal super-JLA team that "I" love reading about...

    Superman
    Batman (and Robin)
    Wonder Woman
    Green Lantern (hal)
    Flash (Barry)
    Aquaman
    J'onn

Then I think as continuing rotation of guest stars...

    Hawkman/Hawkwoman
    Atom
    Green Arrow/Black Canary
    Elongated Man
    Firestorm

And I have a feeling I'm forgetting someone I really liked... but again, that's the problem with huge teams. I love JLA to be the home of the most iconic heavy hitters of DC. The MVPs/All-stars of the Super Hero community. Vixen, Blue Devil and Supergirl are all fine characters... but I'd put them on their own team somewhere. I don't have the desire to erase 30 years of continuity in a 'reset' like this and get back tot he era I love... JUST to immediately mix it all up again O.O

True, but one of the charms about teams like JLA and Avengers (before Heroes Reborn) was that every few years a new member would join to reflect the changing landscape of the universe.

JLA, after the founders, had join:
    1960s: 4 new members
    1970s: 4 new members
1980s: 1 new member (granted, the Satellite era came to a close halfway thru the '80s)

So, I could see the team adding 4 new members per decade, and still be in keeping with it's original pace, with this model.

However, considering the book wasn't really monthly until the mid-'70s.
If we were to break the issues down into 120-issue segments to put the title into a monthly pattern, there's only two decades covered and not three, but the pattern shifts a bit...
    Decade 1 (#1-120) - 6 new members
    Decade 2 (#121-240) - 3 new members

With this model, we're looking at 3 new members per decade, with the first decade having double to fill up the ranks.

If the team had continued on, and avoided the team member explosion that's become popular post-'90s at both DC and Marvel (there's probably less Marvel heroes that aren't Avengers than those that are by now), the team would've had a possible addition of at least 9 more members by the end of this decade, using the second model.
15 if they went by the first model.

Let's assume that we use the second model, which would give the least new members from the '80s until now...

    Who would these 9 be?
May be best to break them down into decades:

    1984-1993:
    1994-2003:
    2004-2013:

I'd put Vixen, Supergirl and John Stewart in the first decade.
Captain Marvel, Plastic Man and Nightwing in the second decade.
Batgirl, Black Lightning and Mister Miracle in the third decade.

And since we'd be halfway thru the next decade by now, I'd add in Cyborg and Dr. Fate, with one more new member on the way before 2023. Probably Power Girl or Booster Gold.

If the classic Satellite era had continued... ? Instead of fully replaced like they did with the Detroit League and then again in the 90's League?
It's hard to imagine, but I'd have genuinely wanted to have seen them just continue adding members, as was the tradition.
And honestly focused on adding diversity from then forward.

You ask what 9 would you have added...?

    Who would these 9 be?
9 seems like allot to me (so I highlighted 5), but continuing from the 80s in historical chronological order of their appearance
Some I would have liked to have seen join:

    1. Black Lightning (he would have been the absolute first, reconsidered joining as he actually did in the 1978 syndicated comic strip)

    2. Vixen (her addition to the team was great, just not as a replacement, as an addition. She should absolutely be a member)

    3. Lady Shiva, looking for redemption (although as her name implies would have made her more South-Asian)

    4. El Diablo (Rafael Sandoval), while Vibe was a horrible cliche addition, Rafael Sandoval was more quietly coming on the scene in the 80's (would have followed the old must have his own book qualifier) and made a great street-level hero added to the team, maybe slowly revealing he was becoming possesed with the power)

    5. Kimiyo Hoshi as Vega, another great 80s addition character, although saddled with the name Dr. Light, I would have called her Vega (Orihime) in Japanese after the star which gave her powers)

    6. Fury (Beatriz da Costa), yeah I would have kept her original name, and focused on her channeling a Gaia type mystical green energy (also would have made her lesbian)

    7. Gypsy(-Moth) although the name is controversial, as a true Romani, I would have emphasized that aspect, had her own it, made her phasing/blending-in powers as the name implies, someone born of, and traveling across and between all dimensions and realities, never settling in one form.

    8. Steel (no not the Heywood III version) going into the 90's John Henry Irons version, actually a great new addition, thematically and visually powerful.

    9. The Hawks (who at the time were Thanagarian) , would have revisited them as reconnecting to their Egyptian descent. re-Discovering one incarnation back.

At this point we would have been well into the 90s, and the supposed "International" League, which had replaced the Global Guardians, yet was one of the least diverse teams.
I would have stolen OwlWoman Wenonah Littlebird from the Global Guardians, and had her join before many of the 90's era League. LOL!

Not sure my imagined 5-9. random additions would have served the JL any better LOL! Probably not. Although all have some historic precedence, and yes unapologeticly diverse (although these are all great characters first) . Again they would have been chronologically ongoing additions to the Satellite League, not replacing anyone.
And the last two were already members.

Interesting to see Supergirl and Batwoman stepping up, or a team in which Martian Manhunter, Supergirl and Captain Comet are the 'big guns.'

Of all the post-Satellite League members, Vixen is probably my absolute favorite (although I've got soft spots for Booster Gold, etc. as well), and given how freaking many of them there have been since then, it's kind of amazing how great some of the earlier League members were. They can push Cyborg or Captain Marvel or whomever, but they'll never feel as much a Leaguer as even the less-used Satellite-era Leaguers like the Atom or Hawkwoman, to me. I really like how the Young Justice cartoon, for example, have tried to keep characters like Black Canary and Red Tornado relevant as Leaguers, by using them as League liaisons to 'the team.'

It's weird that I can totally go for a Justice League team without Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman, or even with a different Flash or Green Lantern than Barry or Hal, but try to present to me a Justice League lineup without some representation from the 'back half' of the Satellite League (Black Canary, Green Arrow, Atom, the Hawks, Reddy, Zee, etc.) and it just doesn't work for me.
