Default Is anyone finding their enthusiasm for Zero Year waning?

I'd say that zero year has ranged from amazing (issue 24) to quite good (most of that silly dr death story). But now that we're in the rather insane "Riddler kills the city and proclaims himself king" part of the story I find myself...not really caring that much.

The whole GOTHAM IS DEAD thing has been insanely overplayed of late and the prospect of three more issues spent on this zero year story just seems like way too long.

I'd also argue Batman Eternal is playing a role in my lack of interest in zero year. There's a Batman comic that's setting up an insane story week to week and while it may not be always a great comic, it at least feels like it's important.

Zero year always had an uphill battle by being set in the past and having to skirt around but sort of re-do Year One and while they've done a great job, I find it harder to care if Gordon and Batman beat the Riddler when I know full well that not only do they beat him but he seems to suffer relatively little punishment and that Gotham is perfectly fine within a few years.

I'll keep reading zero year but I can't help but think maybe they could have told a more stripped down story in half as many issues as they're going for. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Not me...I'm still very much in love with Zero Year. It never felt long to me because it is broken into small arcs, each with its own focus and Savage City is shaping up to be the best yet. Gotham in ruins probably were done in the past, but I couldn't care less because this is my first time reading about this. It is the story for my generation. What I enjoy most about Zero Year is that they take the conventional Batman origin story (become the Bat, fight some starter villains) and make it epic.

I know what you mean however I'm encouraged by the fact that we're coming to the savage endgame, the part I've looked forward to most and has prospect to be the most interesting. Mad Max Batman with a bow and arrow fighting tigers in a jungle Gotham City...I mean, just the fact I can type that sentence is so good.

Weirdly, I also think Eternal has sucked the air from its sails a little. However that's no reflection on ZY itself. In fact it actually makes telling what's been a very strong storyline over 12 issues in monthly format look even harder now!

Whether we like it or not, Zero Year will likely be the Year One and Eternity the Knightfall for a new generation.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I understand Zero Year exhaustion. I've liked it every step of the way, but too much of a good thing is still too much.

Knightfall is my favorite Batman storyline of all time and it went on a lot longer than it needed to. Zero Year has probably lasted a little longer than necessary, too. It's one of Snyder's few flaws.

But like I said, I can't point to any individual issues of the Zero Year storyline I've disliked or found uninteresting, but part of me is glad it'll be over in a few issues, even though it's great in itself.

I thought the second part was a bit slow, and really wasn't taken with Dr Death turning into a monster. However, now The Riddler is centre stage and that's exactly what I want to read. It's back to my top read every month.

I would have preferred this to be its own maxiseries, but only if Snyder was still writing Batman (and now Eternal) as well. I'm greedy like that.

This sentence sums up my thoughts as well.

As to the bolded part....Dr Death's whole problem was very awkwardly articulated, like he almost made zero sense at all, and Riddlers sideburns make me want to break things. Apart from that nothing.

Zero Year is the first Batman story I've read month-by-month, so I can understand the feeling of it dragging, but I can't say I've lost interest. I eagerly look forward to the next issue.

My interest waned after #27 and then the issue off for #28 left me excited for Batman Eternal and anticipating the end of Zero Year, but then as soon as I find myself with a new issue in my hands, the excitement levels rise once more and I love it. So I'm glad we're coming to the endgame, but I still love this run a lot.

I'm still eagerly anticipating the next issue of Zero Year, but I think my craving for the next part of the story has been hurt by Eternal somewhat. Although I think Eternal could have a big effect on how we consume these long running monthly arcs for a while. As good as Zero Year has been (and it has been brilliant) it's taking a long time to tell, and now we're being fed this intriguing and so far great story on a weekly basis that has an even greater 'epic' scope in a lot of ways (and also seemingly tells a 'Gotham is torn down story...) I think it's understandable for the enthusiasm to dampen a bit. But it's not because of Zero Year itself but the outside influences

Quit reading it. Just stopped caring. The title peaked at issue 24. That middle arc just sort of sucked all the momentum out of it. Only Bat title left that I read is B&R. Tomasi's the only one left writing with any semblance of the style that I like. Still gotta check out the new Detective team, but I'll probably trade wait. I am also enjoying Taylor's Earth 2 Batman interpretation.

This seems to be the general opinion; the overall story arc has dragged on for too long, but each issue is still great reading.

Yeah, it's a great story, but I'm ready to get back to the present, which Eternal has more or less been doing. I'm really curious to see how this book coexists with Eternal moving forward.

Yeah, I haven't really been following the book month to month in a while. I just couldn't care less about anything that happens in this story, even though it's not necessarily "bad".

The Doctor Death segment was a big dip for me but the stuff around it like Gordon and a more human Thomas Wayne were great tho.
