Default Comic Writer Resources (questions from a total newbie)

    Hey everyone!

I have been writing and outlining comic scripts for about a year now. I envision a large project, but just want to start building some momentum and actually start producing something closer to a comic and less of a word doc. I have completed a small amount and I am now wondering where do I go from here? What writer communities are out there? Is the next step really finding an artist (I see the seeking talent portion of this message board).

Totally newbie when it comes to the actual execution of an independent project. Would love any advice.

    Thanks!

    Hey Axelrod,

I think you may have luck finding other writers at a more creator-oriented site like DigitalWebbing.com.

Yes, you could start to look for an artist if you think the script is refined as far as you can take it. Or you could get a second opinion from another writer or an editor. This step isnt necessary, to be honest. But if the whole process is kindof new to you then it wouldnt hurt to have a few things pointed out.

Id also check out Jim Zubs blog. He gives out plenty advice to writers.

Along with what Ghost said, its best to have a completed script that has been reviewed by an editor (one of your friends, someone you know who reads a lot or writes). Check out the Comic Book and Graphic Novel Forum at Absolute Write. The forums are a great place for writers to get advice, learn from each other, and find answers to questions. There's many threads answering all aspects of comic creation. I also recommend reading "Write or Wrong" by Dirk Manning, writer of Nightmare World and Tales of Mr. Rhee. It's a fantastic book to read if you're starting out making comics and it covers the questions you asked and more.
